Apple Notes wins with simplicity

Apple’s new OS updates were a bit lackluster but the journaling app looks promising, though I’m not ready to move from Day One until I see what’s missing. Apple Notes didn’t get updates, and that’s fine because it’s already a simple blank piece of paper. People overcomplicate note taking with Notion and Evernote when they just need to write. Keep it simple.

So with Apple releasing the new operating system, they came out with a bunch of new quality of life updates. I think it was a bit lackluster, but there’s some good stuff in there as well.

Two things I want to talk about. One is the journaling app and the other one is Apple Notes for different reasons. Now, the journaling app actually does look good. I’d be interesting to see how it actually works, how you could use it day-to-day. Now, there is a journaling app and it’s been going on for years called Day One. They sold to WordPress, I think. And it’s still great. They keep updating features on it and stuff. I use it, not religiously, although I should because I make daily videos. But I do use it.

But I know people who use Apple Notes for their journaling. So it would be interesting to see if they’ll move over from Apple Notes to the journaling app. But the journaling app being on being an Apple product now would mean that everything, thing is in one ecosystem, which is kind of what they want anyway. But the way that the apps work, the Apple apps work, work really well and really simply. But I want to see how simple it is or what features are missing before I start using it over day one.

Now, Apple notes, I didn’t see any updates. I may have missed something. Let me know below if you saw it and I missed it. But recently, recently on the internet, a bunch of people, there’s this meme going around saying I started with Apple Notes, then I started using all this other stuff, and now I’m back to Apple Notes. Well, the point is with Apple Notes that it’s simple. It can be used for absolutely anything. It’s a blank sheet of paper. I made a video about BASCAP being a blank sheet of paper, meaning you could mold it into anything you want. Apple Notes is basically the same thing. You can put things in there like check marks and so on.

Now, it’s not feature rich, but it’s a fucking note taking out. What do you want with it? Now, a lot of people, more of these people of coming over from Notion than anything else, but there’s Rome research, there’s, oh gosh, what’s the Evernote, for instance? I ever know it’s just going complete pants at the moment. But why would you use Notion for a Notes app? I get Notion. I understand it. I understand why people use it. Notion is effectively an Excel sheet with a database. That’s basically what it is. You have to program it to do what you want. But to get information into it, for notes specifically, it’s a pain in the butt. Just pull up a blank piece of paper and start writing, which is what Apple Notes is digitally.

So I’d be interesting to see what you do for note taking. I use my day to day, I use three apps, two apps, well, third one is a calendar, but things three, which is by task management, sometimes project management for smaller things, and Apple Notes, which is notes, and everything else. So you don’t need to overcomplicate your note-taking thing. I mean, many like to geek about, you know, what they can do and things connecting to whatever. But when those can, excuse me, but when those connections stop working, you’re back to square one. Like, what the fuck am I doing? So just keep it as simple as possible.

And let’s hope that they’re coming out with some updates notes. I can’t think of what else you would need with it. I think some people are asking for columns and stuff. I don’t get it.
