Copying a system isn’t the answer
Having a system you’ve created and use daily is the best way to be more productive. However, if you copy a complete system from someone else, you will not benefit from it. On the contrary, I would argue that you’ll get even less productive.

I often talk about systemising your work processes. So having a system is actually a really good thing. Having a way of working and systemising that workflow will make your life a lot easier.
When I talk about copying a system isn’t a good idea, is that everyone has these systems like GTD and so on and so forth. There’s so many different systems. And everyone has their own. system the way they work.
The problem comes when you’re trying to copy a system that works for someone else and then you kind of poo-poo that idea because it’s not working for you. Well, copying a system will never work for you. Copying parts of a system, and I hate systems in general anyway, will probably work for you but because you’ll get the idea of how to work and create your own system out of copying parts of it.
But copying the whole system saying, oh, this system’s an awesome way of working and they’re doing it and it’s great and it must work for me. That’s kind of the worst idea possible because you’ll just get more and more annoyed saying the technology doesn’t work or the app that you’re using don’t work. But it’s not the app. It’s how you use it.
So these people have created systems for themselves, and they often show it. The problem is the fake guru part of it will tell you to use their system. Their system is a seven-step process and this step process and that. And I just think it’s fake. Fake in the sense that it won’t work for you. It works for them, and it must be the best system in the world for them.
But for you, when you try to get to use those systems, it more than not. more than likely will not work or it would work for a short period of time. So you’re in this state of, oh my God, this is amazing. But after a period of time, you’ll just realise that, you know, this is crap and the app is rubbish. And then you’ll move on to another app. And then the hunt starts again for finding another system.
So be very careful as to what you copy, what parts of the you copy. I would say just don’t copy a system, create your own, but get information and inspiration from the things and the systems that are actually out there.
