Ecamm Live is what I use to record my videos
Making videos is hard. Making daily videos is even harder. So to make that process easier on yourself, you need to use the tools that make your life simpler. For me, I use Ecamm Live to help me record the raw material.

I’m often asked what software I use to record my videos. At home I use a DSLR and Ecamm Live, which lets me record directly to the computer with my USB mic and add extras like graphics. I’ve used it for years, it’s simple and reliable compared to bloated recorder-editor combos.

I’ve been asked a few times as to what software I use when I’m recording these videos. Now, when I was in Spain, I didn’t use any software. I just used the SD card out of the camera, put it into the computer. But that in itself is a pain because you’ve got to take this out, plug it in, blah, blah, blah. So what do I do when I’m at home in my office?
So I use a DSLR, and the software that I use is called e-cam live. Now, it’s a live streaming software, but you can record with it, which is what I’m doing now. That’s why I’m constantly looking down here. So you can actually record, once you’ve got the recording, you can put it into iMovie or I use Final Cut Pro or premiere, whatever I use Final Cut Pro, to edit it and do lots of things with it.
Now, there are other pieces of software out there that have loads of bells and whistles that you can do lots of stuff with. And they’re good, they do work, but they’re kind of complicated. And I want the simplicity of it. So Ecamm Live, even though it does do the live thing, which I don’t do live that often, I use it to purely record for my DSLR. And once I have that file, I can then edit it in any way I can.
All this, these other software, because they’re editors and recorders, they have issues. Whereas I just want to be able to record onto the computer, record this, which is a USB mic, into Ecamm Live as well. I could even pull up graphics and stuff as well. I can even pull up my phone to it, kind of have it next to me, or is it this side? It’s this side.

I’ve used it for years and years before it was called Ecamm Live. I think it was called something else than Ecamm and then Ecamm Live. They used to do different things with it. So I’ve used it for years. And I love it because it’s literally press record.
