Guess what this team needs to do?

Wed, 30 Sep 2026 16:35:00 +0200

I received an email from a prospective client and want to share exactly what they’re struggling with, so you know you’re not the only one…

Team Size: 7 people

The Core Problem: The team spends more time fighting with software and chasing each other for information than talking to clients or growing the business. No time left for video marketing.

Current Tech Stack & Friction Points:

Internal Communication: Scattered across chaotic WhatsApp group chats and Microsoft Teams (which constantly breaks and fails).

Project Management: Paying for Asana because we were told to, but it sits as an expensive ghost town that nobody uses.

Email: Core company communications are on Microsoft 365, but the inbox is overflowing and being misused as a task tracker.

Content Creation: We want to utilize our iPhones for social media video marketing, but zero content gets made due to operational time drain.

Goal: Strip away the redundant tools, stop the internal information hunt, and build a frictionless system so I can focus back on clients and content.

The podcast has been upgraded.

Tue, 29 Sep 2026 09:50:00 +0200

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten back on the saddle. And even worse, done any work relating to my… business!

So starting with the podcast was the best way for me to start my business back up, again, with more videos/podcast episodes coming down the line very soon.

With that, I’ve also updated the website About and Work pages to reflect the direction I’ll be taking moving forward.

You’re the first to hear about this, and you’re welcome to share it, I’ll do the push on social media once I’m 100% ready… right now I’m only 93.27% ready.

Create like a child. Edit like a scientist.

Fri, 24 Jul 2026 12:20:00 +0200

It’s vitally important to have an About page, as well as a way for people to contact you with a Contact page.

However, this whole ‘/now’ page thing I find a little stale, boring, and at times lame.

But I might as well join the wonderful ‘movement’ so I set one up with something that won’t ever go out of date or be lame!

It’s my way of saying, I want to be with the cool kids and not be left out of this great fantastic super groovy idea.

Can creativity exist without boredom?

I hate dark more. It’s no secret. I’ve written about it in the past. But I do see the need for people to have the option. So I added it to my site.

However, you have to be a special kind of cunt if your website is dark mode only!

How the fucking cunty fuck can someone read that shit in the day when it’s bright outside with the sun shining on the fucking screen?!

Sat, 18 Jul 2026 14:38:00 +0200

I just read that a couple of days ago Pika announced the ability to add custom code. You can’t do too much, but a few things are possible.

So today with a little bending of some (coding) rules, I was able to add the Bubbles upvote widget to my posts.

Sun, 28 Jun 2026 07:05:00 +0200

I’ve always preferred the ‘cleaner’ look of a black and white site in light mode! I do however have a love/ hate relationship with dark mode websites/app etc.

The ‘love’ part is that I understand the need.
The ‘hate’ part is that they often look pants!

YouTube sucks!

Fri, 26 Jun 2026 16:36:00 +0200

Yeah I know, I use it. But I use Brave to watch things… so no ads!

But today Brave did an update (1.91.178) and it plastered ads all over the place!

I know it’ll get fixed, but what got my goat wasn’t Brave, but the amount of ads on even the shortest of videos!

Hence why (one of many reasons) I point people to my Odysee profile rather than my YouTube channel.

I prefer writing into the void rather than shouting into an algorithm.

Fri, 26 Jun 2026 16:35:00 +0200

I’ve been off social media for a while. I do dip into one of the platforms now and again, but my blog is where I do my posting.

My online reading is via my RSS reader, Bubbles, Bear blog discovery, and Pika Pulse. The latter is new, and in beta.

We all know that social media platforms are powered by an algorithm. We also know that their main function is to keep you on the platform for ads.

RE: No socials, write more blogs

Tue, 16 Jun 2026 09:58:00 +0200

Couple of things…

Agree with the RSS thing, however my workflow is: RSS ‘as my social media’.

I left social media but kept YouTube (for reasons), and 𝕏 (just because, but very rarely read/interact) so have my RSS app (Reeder) honed to what I want to be ‘exposed’ to.

And yes, reading in the RSS app doesn’t bring the personality of the writer, but it does help me to have a single place to see everything.

Mon, 25 May 2026 15:35:00 +0200

I AM A CREATOR!

The less you fight that word, the more you… create!

I’ll be setting up a community, and looking around to see what’s possible.

Will use the platform to paywall some contents (exclusives, previews etc.)

It’ll be interesting.

I know the ‘blog’ crowd will shit on this, but some of my followers have asked to support my work.

So it’s nice to be able give them something extra for their kindness.

This morning my alarm didn’t fire off so I woke up late. Sucks, but not a biggie.

However, it does slow my day down a bit when my routine is scuppered by a tech bug.

Now I’ve setup several (excessive) alarms to go off every 30 mins so I don’t snooze for too long.

It’s for every piece of tech you have. Especially the ones that you interact with every single day.

This is my iPhone. I still have an iPhone XS Max and I’m happy with it. It does everything I need.

But what I don’t ‘need’ is a screen filled with a bunch of notifications, distractions and app bloat whenever I need to use it.

Simplify your [Mac] life

Life is full of chapters. And it’s up to you to understand when they cross your path and embrace them with vigorous happiness.

This past week it’s been quiet on the blog as I was working on a few things to move forward into the next chapter of my life.

And after being in tech for over 35 years and running various tech-related businesses successfully, I’ve realised I need to move on.

Ouch! But I got it done!

After trying to contact the company and getting nowhere, I’m going to publicise my experience with them and the unit.

Building the foundation for the upper floor of the barn

Tue, 14 Apr 2026 16:24:00 +0200

First we had to cut the steal square tubing for platform to size so the H-Beam going across to the other side of the ban can rest on.

We then created a sandwich between two sink plated steel beams on both sides of the barn to hold the platform we cut earlier this morning.

Your blog should be simple

Tue, 14 Apr 2026 09:19:00 +0200

For me, the main point of a blog is to share your thoughts, ideas, world view of life and the things around you.

Everything else is fluff.

So why have a bunch of links in a header that can distract the reader?

People’s habits don’t change. So simplify your approach.

Mon, 13 Apr 2026 14:08:00 +0200

At the Tech Minimalist, and MacJunky, my job to help coaches and consultants simplify their tech stack, so that they’re not swimming is ‘friction frustration’.

However, that is easier said than done.

Not because they don’t need it but because the current system they’ve used has become a habit they can’t be changed easily.

I too had that problem. Just take a look at the picture above…

Listening, reading and watching the ’tech bros’ talking about how hard it is to get ’email right’ scared me away from learning something I wanted.

Spain

You may have seen some of my emails/posts while I was in Spain. Man it was a great trip.

Truth be told, I wish I was still there. But alas, I had to come back for a project and to help my cousin build the barn.

I love the fact that that I’m not fixed to a location, so can help where I can and enjoy the moment.

Oh, one little nugget of information about ‘coming back’… the truck broke down in France!

AAGGHH!!

It took me many long walks, 1 coach, 1 bus, 1 taxi, 2 hire cars and 4 days to get back to NL!

I’m waiting for the ANWB to bring the truck back to me so I can work on it. It should be here in a few days.

Yeah annoying, but life is an adventure… so live it!

Building the barn

Wed, 25 Feb 2026 13:38:00 +0100

Last summer before I went to Spain, I helped my cousin build the barn as much as possible.

He did a lot while I was away!

Now that I’m back, we’re going full steam in getting the walls in place before we move on to the windows.

It’s looking real good!

Wed, 11 Feb 2026 14:01:00 +0100

They need them to assess whether the truck is ‘worth’ the cost of towing it back to Holland.

So fucking pissed about this because they go by year of the vehicle and how many KMs on the clock.

I told them it’s a classic car and worth upwards of 30k, so they’ve asked for photos.

Fucking livid!!

Something like that. Let’s hope so. I really could do with some good fortune.

Although, this isn’t a penny, so who the fuck knows!

Truck broke down.

Mon, 09 Feb 2026 14:12:00 +0100

Today was a travel day and it started really well.

But the truck broke down on the motorway in France as I was making my way back to Den Helder.

Where I am is so calm

Sat, 07 Feb 2026 11:37:00 +0100

Even the solar panel in my view doesn’t ruin it.

I think I’ll stay here for the weekend and start to make my way back to Den Helder on Monday.

After my walk, solar deployed

Woke up. Went for a small walk. Found a great view!

Sat, 07 Feb 2026 09:07:00 +0100

It’s been a long driving day today

Fri, 06 Feb 2026 17:17:00 +0100

Filled up. Saw an awesome Beetle. Filled the gas tank. And found a beautiful place by the trees on hop of a hill to sleep for the night.

Sounds like a gun range below where I am as they’ve been firing off shots since I’ve been here.

I actually don’t mind it!

It’s been a chilled day. Actually looking forward to getting back.

But I wish I could stay longer. Lack of money is the problem.

Good morning and a great rest

Something I thought about posting in the past, but didn’t…

Mon, 02 Feb 2026 13:34:00 +0100

Many years ago, a client of mine was going through a (non-lethal) health issue.

We spoke about it for a while. And at the end of our conversation, one thing that was said struck me as quite odd.

But I kept it in the back of my mind about things one should, or shouldn’t share in business. Because ‘it could hurt my business’.

The honeymoon period is over

Mon, 02 Feb 2026 09:22:00 +0100

Before a new year starts, you make this promise to yourself:

This year it will be different!
This year I will make things work for me!
This is gonna be my goddamn fucking year!

The year rolls in, and even though you have the best of intentions to make that/your statement a reality, you stumble into old habits and nothing gets done.

Had a great walk to clear my head

Sun, 01 Feb 2026 13:31:00 +0100

Saw some great views. And if you look very carefully, you might see the truck parked on the other side of the valley!

Here’s the thing…

Weigh the pros agains the cons.
Marry the person you dislike the least.
Use tech that works for you, not against you.

So as I sit here in my very warm and comfortable truck while it’s raining, and windy as hell, it makes me think of why the hell would I travel as a nomad like this!

Through the window.

Tue, 27 Jan 2026 09:20:00 +0100

A few hours a go I rolled up to this view and to stay for the night, possibly the weekend.

And as I deal with my emails, I’ve noticed a pattern when I’m contacted about helping people with their Apple devices.

Other than the general questions like…

Why is my Mac slow.
Where are my files located.
Can you help sync my iPhone and iPad.

Are you ready?

Tue, 27 Jan 2026 09:16:00 +0100

Yesterday, as I pulled up and parked in this tranquil place with no body else around I thought that I was going to hunker down and enjoy this view for at least 2-3 days.

This morning I woke up to an amazing sunrise, deployed the solar panel, and sat on the beach enjoying the moment, and thinking about next steps with my business.

The perfect weekend doesn’t exist...

Friday Fury: Yes, it’s about ai

Fri, 23 Jan 2026 09:11:00 +0100

Ok, I don’t know exactly how to convey my thoughts on this, so I’ll just call it an enlightened moment and a lapse of concentration for the past 2-3 years.

I woke up this morning, chilled while watching a video that appeared in my timeline. And came to the sudden realisation on how I could, and should, use ai for my own gain.

No, don’t worry. I’m not going senile. And haven’t left my brain in the gutter.

Using a second screen... Yes or No?

Thu, 22 Jan 2026 09:09:00 +0100

A long time subscriber Mark replied to a previous newsletter about using a second screen. And how using an iPad is helping him make things easier for him.

A nice addition and can be helpful from time to time is that I use my iPad as a 2nd screen. Not all the time, but for some work that is very beneficial.

What’s stopping you from working like this?

Social media apps on my iPhone

Sun, 18 Jan 2026 09:06:00 +0100

It depends on what you ’need’ social media for, but for me, it’s a huge distraction. And I’m fed up with all the rage-baiting, shit-posting, ai slop ‘content’ that’s being posted.

So today I deleted all the apps from my iPhone to regain time, and sanity.

I know, I know, I’ve been beating this drum for a while. But it’s gotten to a stage where I really can’t hack it anymore. It’s not good for my mental health and I’m really just wasting time.

Something to think about

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 08:57:00 +0100

Sat, 10 Jan 2026 09:17:00 +0100

I’ve had a few people ask me about power and how I keep my electronics, even my fridge/freezer, powered while I’m nomading in my truck.

Well, it’s via a 400w solar blanket while I’m ‘camped’. And a 1000w DC-to-DC charger while I drive. So I’m never without power.

My cooking is also fully electric. I have an induction stove top and an air fryer that I’ve recently purchased. So between the two, I can eat inside or out.

Stayed here all day and night.

You can hear the main motorway, but only if you’re focusing on it.

The only other (non) issue is that there is a bright light in the far distance.

I think it’s the football pitch flood lights, that may be annoying if you don’t cover the window facing it.

Other than that, I think I’ll be coming back to this place for sure!

Not all technology is good technology

Thu, 18 Dec 2025 11:17:00 +0100

There’s a different between wanting something and needing it. When it comes to technology we use in our daily lives nowadays, I feel it’s more of a want through great marketing rather than the need for it.

Today I decided the date of my road trip

Sat, 22 Nov 2025 20:17:00 +0100

I’d like to be in Tarifa for Woof!’s birthday (5th Dec)

It also gives me time to be away for a while so I can spend Christmas in the desert in Spain.

If I leave next weekend, I have enough time to get there.

Here’s a picture of Woof! In 2022 at the bench we sat on watching the sunset together.

Firstly, why on earth would I search for myself??!!

You see, I care about my brand, as everyone should. So now and again I check to see how my brand is being presented online. And see if everything I put out into the world is, well… ‘on brand’.

My Linux/Omarchy journey

Wed, 15 Oct 2025 20:34:00 +0200

The last time I had a Linux OS on a computer was back in 2010, so this’ll be interesting.

Why am I doing this?

I’ve been thinking about moving away from MacOS for a while, but all the data I have has been ‘stuck’ within the Apple ecosystem and I didn’t want to force myself to go somewhere else.

However, when I saw Omarchy last week, I so geeked out over it that I thought…

Making your email game better!

Tue, 14 Oct 2025 13:34:00 +0200

If you think about it, there aren’t that many apps you need to do your work. And may of us has specific apps we need for our craft.

However, there is one app that every single one of us use. And that’s is… Email.

Email is by far the most logical, simple and oldest app that we’ve all used to communicate with the outside world.

It’s used for sending responses, transactions, sales, newsletters etc. Oh, and even love letters!

Is it time to move on?

Mon, 13 Oct 2025 13:15:00 +0200

There are times when you think you have everything worked out. But after some soul searching you find something slowly eating away at you.

This is how I’ve been feeling for the last year or so about my tech stack.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Mac and stack. The way it’s helped me, and my clients, get work done… simply!

But I’ve had this inner urge to find a better, simpler, more privacy focused, more secure, and even more productive way to doing things for me and my business.

The possibilities are endless!

Mon, 29 Sep 2025 14:36:00 +0200

After a hectic few weeks of cat sitting for my best friend, while packing my storage space to move. And the unexpected bad news about Woof! I’m exhausted!

However, life, and work, doesn’t stop. Not only that, I can’t sit still and wallow in self pity.

I’ve grieved, I’ve felt every emotion run through me. And I’m guessing it’s going to take a while to get it out of my system.

LinkedIn, \"an endless loop of BS that never ends\

Sat, 06 Sep 2025 09:33:00 +0200

Yes, LinkedIn is cringe. And I hate it with a passion. However, I’m still drawn to posting my ‘BS’ for ‘reach’, but guess what…

I get better connections, conversations, feedback, and even better (more) work, via my ‘What would Kia do?’ newsletter!

I think I’ll be deleting that shit hole of a ‘social media’ pretty soon.

It makes my life a little easier now that I’ve moved away from social media and purely concentrating on my own platform and community.

The plan was to publish a Friday Fury episode yesterday about ai, but so much more information is coming my way that I wasn’t able to record it in time.

But it will be coming, and it’s going to be the most fierce one I’ve ever done.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on ai, so send me a (comment: )

Thu, 17 Jul 2025 10:43:00 +0200

Problem?

Well not really a problem, but I want to read better quality posts.

I find social media, and LinkedIn specifically (as I’m on here quite often) isn’t great for personal insights on subjects.

All I see is more and more fluff, back-patting and sales.

Yes they have a place and LinkedIn is the place for that, but there are better platforms for find more in-depth articles in a particular topic.

When I scroll through social media, especially LinkedIn, I get hit with the a wall of ai related posts that do nothing to help anyone.

Sun, 13 Jul 2025 15:00:00 +0200

I’d like to bring your attention to a great short film by Ali Gallop about what the internet is supposed to be.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know how I feel about social media, and more importantly ai.

Why do I hate ai so much?

I know people use ai for all sorts of things. I also know that it can be a valuable resource of knowledge.

Some people see this and panic

Sun, 13 Jul 2025 07:47:00 +0200

Not I.

I have a love relationship with the internet. However, I have a hate relationship with the way big tech and corporations are trying to take it away from what is was supposed to be.

And I’m seeing more and more posts and videos like this one that brings me hope that we can pull it back form the clutches of the greedy and back into the hands of us who simply want to share out passions, hobbies and life.

It's called 'imposter syndrome

Tue, 25 Feb 2025 06:03:00 +0100

Kill that shit before it kills you!

Why one earth would you hire someone if you can do it yourself?

Mon, 24 Feb 2025 08:58:00 +0100

I mean, it’s not as if you don’t have time, right?

Spend time to learn something you will use, once
Spend money for tools you need to get it done
Spend more time on learning the tools
Spend more money on more tools, because the first ones weren’t right
Spend even more time to learn new skills to fix the errors

I mean, seriously, just DIY it and you’ll be able to do anything, anytime, and anywhere!

People hate being sold to....

Sun, 23 Feb 2025 11:20:00 +0100

…and that, is just a matter of fact.

So how would you ‘sell’ something to someone who doesn’t want to be sold to?

My take, use the product… not SHOW, USE!

USE it in your routine
USE it around your environment
USE it in your daily life

Again, USE it. Don’t explain it, just USE the fucking thing!

The ‘SHOW’ part is/will/should be incidental to the USE-age of said product.

You sell with stories, not mathematics.

Staying focused is easy with a MacBook...

Fri, 21 Feb 2025 09:24:00 +0100

…especially if it’s the only choice as a nomad, and you only have a 13" MacBook pro to work with!

No one said it was easy.

It’s all discipline, and knowing that your workspace and tools are setup so well that they’ll never be in your way.

Here’s how I set up mine when I collaborate with my clients, including some of the tools I use!

Staying focused and being productive on a single 13\" screen

Fri, 21 Feb 2025 09:04:00 +0100

So how do I do it? How do I stay focused on a project when working with a client on their project while working remotely?

Being a nomad, you can’t lug around a 27" screen everywhere, so you have to improvise. And I do that with my 13" MacBook Pro.

The new Basecamp Hilltop view

Fri, 21 Feb 2025 06:37:00 +0100

The new Hilltop view for Basecamp is here, and it’s going to make the top-down-view of all your project tasks so much easier.

The Hill Chart is a tool that helps you manually keep track of task lists so you know what’s going on with a glance.

You also have the ability to leave notes when updating the Hill Chart so everyone in the team can know how the tasks are progressing.

Everyone in my organisation has a job to do, that includes Woof!

Thu, 20 Feb 2025 08:18:00 +0100

It’s hard running a business, we all know this.

So when you have a someone in your circle that get fed, cleaned, walked and sleeps whenever he likes, it can be a little annoying to say the least.

So why not get them to pull their weight!

Woof! has been a my Security Officer for many years, but he also has another incredibly important duty within my organisation!

So why does Woof! have a Basecamp profile?

Thu, 20 Feb 2025 08:05:00 +0100

Hahaha, that’s a very good question!

As you know I use Basecamp when I work with my clients. And there are times I have to make videos showing Basecamp from the client’s perspective.

So the videos have to show what they see, rather than Basecamp from my viewing perspective.

For that reason it’s good to have a ‘dummy client’ account in the project to make it easier.

Starting a project should be easy...

Wed, 19 Feb 2025 07:49:00 +0100

…but many make the mistake of complicating the simple and make it hard for themselves.

Here’s a preview of my Basecamp template just before I onboard my clients for a large project we’re collaboration on.

Don’t have everything all over the place, have it all in one place, that way you’ll never have things fall through the gaps!

How do you start your projects?

Kia.

A glimpse of my Basecamp template just before I onboard

Wed, 19 Feb 2025 07:26:00 +0100

Today is the day I onboard my clients into Basecamp for a project I’m extremely excited to get start on!

The screenshot is my Basecamp template before the work begins. I have a some client data in there to get started, but it’s pretty much a blank sheet right now.

It's been a year, and my Mac desktop hasn't changed, much

Tue, 18 Feb 2025 16:08:00 +0100

Well, it’s been almost a year, since I posted this last year.

I find it calming, it does everything I need, and keeps me super productive!

How’s your desktop and Dock looking?

Kia.

If you’re liked by everyone, you’re doing something wrong.

Tue, 18 Feb 2025 08:14:00 +0100

I almost fell into the trap!!

Mon, 17 Feb 2025 09:20:00 +0100

In the spirit of my video titled ‘ You already have the app!’ I almost fell into the trap, again!

This morning I needed to send a proposal to a client. I have in the past used several services to make this task simple, but I found them to be complicated and bloated.

Then I realised… I already have an app! It’s called Basecamp!

Sending a proposal is easy, so stop complicating it!

Mon, 17 Feb 2025 08:34:00 +0100

Often we complicate the most basic of things. Presenting a proposal used to be as simple as a phone call, an email, a chat message.

But they’ve became as convoluted as all the three examples above plus documents, PDFs, external services and I’m sure someone as some point has even sent a carrier pigeon!

The simpler the tool, the more you can get done.

Fri, 14 Feb 2025 14:07:00 +0100

I was one of those who though Basecamp was ’too simple’. I also bounced between apps to help me run mu business and collaborate with my clients.

But once I realised Basecamp could do everything I wanted form it, I never looked back!

Kia.

They had learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Is your Mac like as disorganised as this?

Thu, 13 Feb 2025 09:59:00 +0100

Using a Mac should be as easy as pie. Even though we have every intention of staying organised, it gets messy over time. So how can we keep it organised so we know where our files are?

The best way is to Keep IT Simple!

How’s your Mac right now? Want some help getting it organised?

Let me know…

Kia.

Now that's some seriously good product placement!

Struggling to make videos can be annoying, but there is a solution...

Wed, 12 Feb 2025 11:40:00 +0100

What kind of video would you like to see?

My thoughts on Tim Cook

Wed, 12 Feb 2025 09:18:00 +0100

I’m a Apple guy.

Have been since 1986.

And I’ve been a MacJunky ever since.

But, I cannot stand Tim Cook.

Never have. Never will.

There is a way to simplify email, and here's how to do it.

Mon, 10 Feb 2025 11:21:00 +0100

If you’re like me you love email. But it can also get very ‘busy’ and annoying. Especially if it’s setup in a convoluted annoying way!

So how about simplifying it by using the right tools that’ll make you WAY more productive!

Kia.

Updated the website today

Sun, 09 Feb 2025 15:23:00 +0100

I know I keep ’re-doing’ my website, but I keep finding new ways of making it simpler and wondering if I’m able to make the backend code better.

The previous website, although I really liked it, was more focused on a blog than my work. I kept getting asked work questions, even though there were links.

So I though I’d move things around a little and make it more business first focused but have the ability to show my personality also.

Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple.

I think it’s a good thing you’re making your brand a bigger scope. Your knowledge and expertise are not limited to one field. It’s interconnected to a lot of things.

This way you don’t limit yourself to just one subject. Your point of view on a lot of things is needed in the future of technology.

The Entrepreneur's Journey: Insights from Kia Kamgar on building a life and business you love

Thu, 06 Feb 2025 13:50:00 +0100

I was interviewed, well to be perfectly honest it was more of a conversation, with Carolyn Vitale, Sales Manager for Marketcircle, the makers of Daylite for a partnership.

Well let’s just say it went beyond just a partnership, as the conversation was so good she turned into a post for their LinkedIn Newsletter!

I’ve been using Daylite since around 2006 and seen the amazing transition the product, and even the company, has had throughout the years.

Welcome to The Tech Minimalism Newsletter

Wed, 05 Feb 2025 11:04:00 +0100

Someone asked me why I wanted to stop the old email list and start all over again fresh, with zero subscribers.

Here was my reply…

My old email list was from the days of MacJunky (my previous brand and company) and most of the users on there were not benefiting from my new messaging and content.

So I thought it was best to start all over again to better help those who do like my new content and not ‘spam’ those who rather not hear the new me.

Using HEY by 37signals as a lite CRM works!

As you’re aware, I use Basecamp for the foundation of my business. My client project collaborations, CRM and so on.

I also use HEY as my only email service because of the feature set, its simplicity and how it fits my workflow.

But I’ve recently started using HEY as a lite ‘pre-CRM’, for the times I need to track the smaller projects.

Simplify LinkedIn with this browser extension

Bells and whistles are great, but do we really need them in the apps and services we use daily? The answer to that question is… no!

Minimal LinkedIn is a browser extension that has option to remove the distractions and features you don’t want with a click of a button.

All in with RSS via the Reeder app

Wed, 11 Dec 2024 09:23:00 +0100

I’ve been using the original Reeder app since the beginning. I love the simplicity of it. The way the features stay out of the way until you need them. It’s a great app that also has a clean interface and does what it supposed to.

When the new version of the app came out a few weeks ago, I rested it due to it’s subscription model, removal of the unread counts, and the way it looked.

He helped me set up my Mac some time back, showed me a very efficient folder structure which I still use and best of all, introduced me to Basecamp.

The simplicity of Basecamp really reflects Kia’s philosophy: you can work efficiently with only a handful of tools. I couldn’t work without Basecamp anymore. Its simplicity is its power.

I work with all my clients via Basecamp and the feedback from my clients is always positive. One place for all outputs, documents, task management, email forward, agenda and communication.

Chevy K5 Blazer service manual

Wed, 20 Nov 2024 08:22:00 +0100

When I had my 1989 Blazer I always wanted a full service manual for it, so I was able to repair what I could without issue.

I found this online back in 2003 and have had it ever since. And has come in very handy on many occasions.

When I moved to Holland I made sure this was in a safe place so I wouldn’t lose it.

My first ever Walkman; The Sony TCD-D3

Tue, 19 Nov 2024 13:54:00 +0100

Man I loved this thing!

I always wanted a Walkman but hated tape. You couldn’t always find the start of a song when seeking the tape, so I never had one.

CD Walkman was what I had, but I wasn’t able to make my own CDs of my records at the time.

Then DAT came along, and having work/money, I decided to buy one.

Why you ask?

In the past I used to be heavily on social media for connection. Heck I met some awesome friends in real life on there and they have become some of my best friends.

But over the years, social media has changed into a shouting match of people wanting to be seen and wanted. That’s not what I want, or need.

Dead EGR valve

Fri, 30 Aug 2024 10:13:00 +0200

Chuck the truck has been giving me a bunch headaches for the past few weeks. Not only have I ‘broken down’ but it’s been stalling intermittently.

Not good, or safe.

I’ve been diagnosing it as I go, and have replaced the TPS, the IAC and a bunch other parts. And yesterday I finally found the culprit.

The EGR valve!

A new one has been ordered, but it’s going to take a few days to arrive, so for now I’ll just ‘delete’ it by plugging up the port so I can get back on the road.

Fixing Chucks dash lamps, HVAC fan and speedo dial.

Sat, 10 Aug 2024 11:57:00 +0200

Having a classic Chevy K5 Blazer in general brings its own challenges, but driving and sleeping in truck daily can put a little more strain than normal. But as long as you’re on top of it all, you’ll be fine.

So while I’m house/dog sitting for a family member, I thought I’d take the opportunity to fix a few things that were annoying me lately. The blower fan, the dash light that flicker when going over bumps, and the speedo needle that fell of a while back!

The fan was easy, took it out, oiled it, put it back… bingo!

Back to Apple and its simple apps

Mon, 29 Jul 2024 14:05:00 +0200

I know I keep changing my mind about the apps I use to run my life and business. But sometimes you need to step back and look at what you really need.

Not only have I moved over to the stock Apple apps on my Mac, I am the MacJunky after all, but I have completely moved over to them on my iPhone also.

Apple Reminders is as simple as it gets

The site finally has an RSS feed!

Thu, 11 Jul 2024 08:59:00 +0200

It took some time, but with some sweat, tears and headaches, I finally managed to add an RSS feed to the site to make it easier for you to get updates.

Let me quickly explain what RSS is for those in the back.

Basically, RSS is an open protocol to read/consume internet articles without the need for going to their respective websites.

How to create a CRM in Basecamp

Mon, 08 Jul 2024 13:10:00 +0200

I recently made a video about using Basecamp as a CRM. So here’s the demo project, with notes below, to show what’s possible.

As you can see, it’s quite simple.

Triage = Leads
Not now = Lost
Done = Won

The rest are my ‘stages’. Change them accordingly for you own use-case.
Create a card, place all client and project details within.
With Basecamp being so versatile, what I like to call a ‘blank sheet of paper, you can place any bits of information you like. For instance, budget, deal cost etc.
I then use the comment section for each ‘client’ to add notes.

However, I wouldn’t recommend using this method if you’re a sales team with multiple members.

Are you watching too many videos?

Sun, 07 Jul 2024 09:03:00 +0200

I love videos. Making them, watching them, analysing them. But I have an addiction problem when it comes to being lured into one with a clickbait thumbnail.

On this fine sunny Sunday sitting in the garden while I dog sit for a family member, I think about the awesome Chrome/ Brave/ Firefox extension I installed a while ago called Clickbait Remover for Youtube.

After posting what I wanted on the 37Signals forum, I found that the link I posted actually worked! So apparently there as a page/query you can use.

The joys of having a calm workspace

Mon, 01 Jul 2024 09:06:00 +0200

“The tidier the desk, the more you can get done” isn’t alway true, but it works for me.

Here’s my desktop, it’s my ‘virtual’ desk. It’s not cluttered because I don’t want to be distracted when I sit to share my thoughts or get some work done.

It has the exact tools I need at an arms reach. So there’s no friction of looking for the right app.

Overlooking simplicity

Fri, 28 Jun 2024 11:27:00 +0200

I think we’re all getting fed up with newsletters and how they try to manipulate you into buying something. Not even that, but they all look the same!

No one likes an audit

Thu, 25 May 2023 11:08:00 +0200

It doesn’t matter what kind of audit it may be, they’re always annoying, stressful and intimidating. But at times they’re necessary.

None of your god damn business!

Wed, 24 May 2023 20:10:00 +0200

Things I don’t share on social media:

• how much money I make
• what my profit margins are
• who my clients are

Why?

Because it’s none of your god damn business!!

If you’re online and share this stuff, you’re not a business owner, you’re a hack.

*and most likely selling shit

Your time is worth more

Wed, 24 May 2023 12:54:00 +0200

On social media, you’ll often come across posts that’ll glamorise what a high-flying entrepreneur does to stay on top. And it’s all horse shit!

Being last works

Tue, 23 May 2023 13:54:00 +0200

You should never worry about being the last to be contacted. You see, when you’re the last line of defence, they know they’ve got the right person.

Productivity is dying

Mon, 22 May 2023 13:56:00 +0200

Reading through the comments of a very interesting Tweet this morning, it seems many are getting fed up with ‘productivity’ apps, and I’m here for it!

Friday Fury: The hustle

Fri, 19 May 2023 13:58:00 +0200

You’re not special. Everyone needs to work to pay bills, I get it, but having to hustle every day won’t give you the experiences you need as a human.

Make space for simplicity

Thu, 18 May 2023 13:59:00 +0200

It doesn’t matter if you’re building an app, running a business or creating content, in fact, even your personal life. Just remember to Keep IT Simple.

You don’t need to overcomplicate IT

Wed, 17 May 2023 14:16:00 +0200

If you want to focus, you must ensure you have no distractions. One area I find many struggle with is the amount of tab/app switching they do.

Destructive wrong answers

Tue, 16 May 2023 14:18:00 +0200

It’s destructive to do anything wrong. Worse, it’s utterly destructive if you have to fix something you thought was a good idea due to a wrong solution.

The 80/20 rule to rule them all

Mon, 15 May 2023 14:19:00 +0200

Many know the 80/20 rule. However, I don’t think they know how to implement it into their life as a whole. Let me explain my thoughts.

Friday Fury: Selling shovels

Fri, 12 May 2023 14:22:00 +0200

The amount of bullshit on the internet never amazes me anymore, but reading bios stating, “I’ve made $10M for my clients”, is fucking getting out of hand!

Make IT so simple it’s invisible

Thu, 11 May 2023 14:23:00 +0200

The more complicated your tech stack, the more unproductive you will become. The secret is to make your whole system so simple that it’s invisible.

Unlearn to learn

Wed, 10 May 2023 14:25:00 +0200

Learning something is one of the most rewarding things you can do. But often, you’ll need to unload what you learned to get something done.

Turn it off and on again

Tue, 09 May 2023 14:27:00 +0200

There are times no matter what you try it will never be how you want it. Trying to sellotape or hack a solution to make it work will often make it worse.

All the gear but no idea

Mon, 08 May 2023 14:28:00 +0200

Having all the tools in the world won’t make you productive unless you have a goal. Knowing what you need to achieve that goal is vital when choosing the right tools.

Life is better when it’s simpler

Fri, 05 May 2023 14:54:00 +0200

The more we have, the more we worry about the stupidest thing. I put my money where my mouth was and left everything behind to live a simpler life.

Never lose the art of conversation

Thu, 04 May 2023 14:56:00 +0200

There are times when texting, emailing or even writing a blog post doesn’t convey how you feel. That’s why I think video is so important to master.

Want to simplify?

Don’t wait, create

Wed, 03 May 2023 09:30:00 +0200

The longer you wait to do something, the more anxious you get and may never do it. So when it comes to creating content for your business, I’d just start.

It doesn’t have to be perfect

Tue, 02 May 2023 09:32:00 +0200

When it comes to video content creation, you won’t win any Oscars or awards, so why are you trying to make it perfect? Just hit that record button!

Productivity is a lie

Mon, 01 May 2023 09:33:00 +0200

The longer you look for a way to be more productive by learning everything under the sun, the longer it’ll take for you to actually get off your ass and do it.

Friday Fury: Twitter narcissists

Fri, 21 Apr 2023 09:35:00 +0200

It’s been a while, so as the narcissists whine online, I thought it was high time for another Friday Fury episode to shed some light on their fake glory!

Nothing ever goes to plan

Tue, 11 Apr 2023 09:36:00 +0200

It doesn’t matter how much you plan, what you strategise, and whom you bring into a project. It will never go to plan. But you should never focus on the negatives.

The journey, not the destination

Mon, 10 Apr 2023 09:40:00 +0200

When I work with a client, the more I know about the end result (the destination), the better the solution will be. However, when on the road, I prefer the journey.

The day we left Amsterdam

Fri, 07 Apr 2023 14:07:00 +0200

Listen to the whisper

Mon, 27 Mar 2023 10:02:00 +0200

Your inner voice can sometimes be overwhelming, but if you don’t listen to that whisper, you might regret it later in life.

From simplicity to spaghetti at Basecamp

Mon, 20 Mar 2023 11:36:00 +0100

Simplicity is something we all strive to possess, but as we work and find ways to make our business work more efficiently, we lose sight of that focus.

FOMO is killing your productivity

Thu, 16 Feb 2023 11:51:00 +0100

The less we have, the more time we have. But having extra time for ourselves doesn’t mean doom-scrolling for fear of missing out.

Want to simplify your business workflow? Hire the Tech Minimalist!

The importance of not having a job

Tue, 14 Feb 2023 13:58:00 +0100

We all need a purpose; otherwise, we aimlessly drift and waste our time on the mundane. So doing something we enjoy and getting paid for is the ultimate goal.

Is the autofocus on a Fujifilm camera good?

Sun, 12 Feb 2023 14:15:00 +0100

iPhone screen modes

Thu, 09 Feb 2023 08:08:00 +0100

I love to have the least possible apps on my iPhone screen as possible. While without impeding what needs to be done during the day.

I’ve been thinking about how I ‘dynamically’ could have more on my screen without using up more space.

It’s ok to just use the stock Apple apps

Mon, 06 Feb 2023 14:03:00 +0100

Sometimes we need to get a third-party app to get our work done. However, using the stock Apple apps can be easier and save you time and money.

Always wanted one. Now I have one.

Paul Harren

Sat, 28 Jan 2023 11:45:00 +0100

Kia is someone that you listen to and know instantly that you’re in a masterclass.

You can sense that he’s been exposed to all manner of philosophies and systems of work that are needlessly or helplessly complex, and he’s seen it, solved it, and ready for anything you can throw at him.

I’ve been helped many times to great effect, even down to website design.

Thank you Kia!!

iPhone – Jan '23

Thu, 26 Jan 2023 08:11:00 +0100

My latest iPhone home screen is an extension of how I feel. Currently, the theme is less work and more practical and social.

The right side of your brain is screaming

Wed, 18 Jan 2023 14:05:00 +0100

There might be a reason why you’re feeling lost. Maybe, like me, you too have lost that creative spark, fire, and passion you had when you first started your business.

The right video tools do matter

Tue, 17 Jan 2023 14:10:00 +0100

It can be overwhelming to see someone else’s setup. It’s great for inspiration, but it’s a huge mistake to think it’s something you need to get the quality you want.

And now for something completely different

Mon, 16 Jan 2023 14:13:00 +0100

After being asked numerous times about how I make my videos, I decided to I may just produce a video course. If I do, would you be interested in it?

Being creative means being selfish

Fri, 13 Jan 2023 14:15:00 +0100

It takes courage to create something and put it into the world. But worrying about things like that will hold you back for no good reason. So be selfish, be you!

How to keep your data safe

Thu, 12 Jan 2023 14:24:00 +0100

I often talk about data safety and how to store your data reliably, and in today’s video, I’ll tell you a short story about a friend’s data woes and how you can avoid the same issue.

‘Busyness’ can kill opportunities

Wed, 11 Jan 2023 14:26:00 +0100

Being ‘busy’ can be a double edge sword. On the one hand, it’s great to be working, but on the other, it doesn’t leave time for other urgent things.

I don’t look forward to the weekend

Tue, 10 Jan 2023 14:27:00 +0100

The weekends are great; we let our hair down and do things we would not normally do during the week due to work. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

It’s time to let go of things

Mon, 09 Jan 2023 14:33:00 +0100

I’m guilty of hoarding tech ‘stuff’. Whether it’s old equipment, parts, or things I think I might use later, and it’s really become a problem, but I’m about to fix it.

No, I don’t have an iPad

Fri, 06 Jan 2023 14:37:00 +0100

The Apple ecosystem is great, but sometimes we need a device to do some work. And I feel an iPad isn’t the best device to reach for that task.

Stop looking at features

Thu, 05 Jan 2023 14:39:00 +0100

Features are only good if we need or use them. The issue with ‘features’ is that they’re often bloat and never used. Show me the benefits, and I’ll buy it.

The best lazy email workflow

Wed, 04 Jan 2023 14:42:00 +0100

Many small businesses struggle with email and how it’s used to collaborate. But there is an easy, dare I say it, lazy email workflow that might work for you too.

Saving money is simpler

Tue, 03 Jan 2023 14:44:00 +0100

There are plenty of gurus out there telling you how you could make more money. But have you thought that simply not wasting money could be more beneficial?

In with the new

Mon, 02 Jan 2023 14:46:00 +0100

In with the new [year], we’re all so quick to create a resolution we can never realistically keep. So this year, develop smaller steps for your ideas and goals. It’ll be easier.

Merry Christmas

Fri, 23 Dec 2022 14:49:00 +0100

So this is Christmas. A very merry Christmas. I hope you have fun.

Who’s in your corner?

Thu, 22 Dec 2022 15:16:00 +0100

This episode will annoy some, but I have been thinking about who you have behind you when you get great technical information you need to implement.

Do this if using email is annoying

Wed, 21 Dec 2022 15:49:00 +0100

One of the best business tool we have is email. However, the problem with email is that it can take up a lot of our time and energy. But there is an easy fix: Delete it!

Stop having meetings

Tue, 20 Dec 2022 15:50:00 +0100

Having too many meetings can be more of a headache than many realise. The best way for you, the team, the project or even the client to know what’s going on is to have a single source of truth.

iPhone screen

Tue, 20 Dec 2022 08:13:00 +0100

You don’t have to have all the apps in the world at your figure tips. You just need the ones you often use that help you progress throughout the day.

We all have our own rhythm

Mon, 19 Dec 2022 15:52:00 +0100

Having the best system for our business is the holy grail regarding tech and IT. However, many don’t realise that creating such a system comes from within.

The simpler it is, the better the outcome

Thu, 01 Dec 2022 08:15:00 +0100

The idea of having all the apps and tools at your fingertips is a lost cause.

I’ve been an Apple/Tech guy for over 30 years, and in those years, the one thing I’ve learned is to use the simplest, easiest and most powerful tools possible.

It’s not been perfect. I’ve been swayed by the marketing of these companies and dove head-first into the rabbit hole of SaaS products and apps.

I wish things just worked!

Wed, 30 Nov 2022 15:54:00 +0100

More often than not, nothing works out of the box. It’s annoying, frustrating and a massive time suck! But once you understand the issue and know what you need out of the tech you use, then life becomes easier.

How can adding something can help you simplify?

Mon, 21 Nov 2022 15:56:00 +0100

It’s so counter-intuitive, especially when Tech Minimalism tells us the opposite, but sometimes it’s better to add something to your toolkit that helps us simplify our business.

Step back and take stock

Fri, 23 Sep 2022 16:58:00 +0200

Sometimes it’s good to step back from our business and take time for ourselves. It’s a great way to understand how we can move forward. Because being outside the business is better than grinding within it.

Is your Mac like this?

Thu, 22 Sep 2022 16:59:00 +0200

Having a pleasant, tidy environment to work in is one of the best things you could give yourself. However, many don’t adhere to this regarding their tech, specifically their Apple and Mac systems.

Stop hacking your tools!

Wed, 21 Sep 2022 17:01:00 +0200

The best solution is the simple one. So if you’re constantly fixing the ‘hacks’ that are supposed to make your life easier, then what’s the point? You’re only ’Sellotaping’ a fix and not fixing it permanently. Right?

Are you using automation because you’re busy?

Tue, 20 Sep 2022 17:03:00 +0200

I’ve often said that automation is for the lazy and unorganised. However, I also know that it’s a tool to help the busy get organised. The issue I find is that often it’s used due to people being too busy rather than their need for it.

Never fear the unknown

Mon, 19 Sep 2022 17:05:00 +0200

It’s all too common to fear the task than actually doing the test itself. As a result, we sometimes fall into a place where we feel anxious about trying something new. Even though, deep down, we know it’s probably better for us.

Basecamp is the modern day Rolodex

Fri, 16 Sep 2022 17:08:00 +0200

I used to run a business in the past with a minimal amount of ‘tech’. And when I say ‘tech’ I mean Rolodex, pen and paper! So for me having a tool like Basecamp is equivalent to that, but quicker, simpler and easier.

Basecamp is the ultimate blank piece of paper

Thu, 15 Sep 2022 17:11:00 +0200

Now that Basecamp has moved to a per-user pricing model, I think this is the best time for many single-user/small businesses to look into it to see how they can save time and money by implementing it into their workflow.

Complexity creates complications

Wed, 14 Sep 2022 17:12:00 +0200

When a complex issue needs to be addressed, the simpler the solution, the better it would be.

However, many don’t apply this method, so somehow, the solution becomes a convoluted, complicated and diabolical mess.

Want to remove complexity? Check out Tech Minimalism

Change can be difficult

Tue, 13 Sep 2022 17:15:00 +0200

Apple released iOS16 last night, and many things changed in the system. This annoyed me a little, but it got easier once I started to adapt to the new features. But like many others, I found it hard to adjust when I initially upgraded.

Copying a system isn’t the answer

Mon, 12 Sep 2022 17:17:00 +0200

Having a system you’ve created and use daily is the best way to be more productive. However, if you copy a complete system from someone else, you will not benefit from it. On the contrary, I would argue that you’ll get even less productive.

Technology should only be useful

Sun, 11 Sep 2022 09:16:00 +0200

Here’s a very short guide for others who want to digital detox. I say DON’T. Just be mindful of the tech you use…

Just watched a video where two Vanlifers went on a 72-hour’ digital detox’, but things turned bad and annoying when their van broke down.

I get it, they wanted to see how far they got without tech, and I commend them for it. However, if you chose tech for good and not ’evil’ (harsh), you’ll be fine.

Quality always has a price

Fri, 09 Sep 2022 17:19:00 +0200

Quality matters, no matter what you buy or invest your time on. So when it comes to making the suitable investment to better your life, whether it’s for you or your business, making the right choices should also… matter.

Keeping your business organised with Daylite

Apple macOS security features

Wed, 07 Sep 2022 17:32:00 +0200

Having a Mac that’s secure is always a good thing. So when I read an article about how Apple is going beyond just securing your device and data by enabling their macOS system to do more, it got me excited!

Computerworld article: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3672528/apple-wasnt-fooling-when-it-said-it-wanted-to-make-macs-more-secure.html

Opportunities Board in Daylite

Wed, 07 Sep 2022 09:18:00 +0200

Not long ago, Daylite released their Board view for Opportunities, and I love how they’ve integrated it into the workflow.

About 2 weeks ago, Marketcircle released Opportunities Board for Daylite. I just love how they’ve integrated it into the workflow.

The visual way makes me understand where I am with my prospects, and with the filters, I can see a forecast of how exactly things are going.

Email is the only constant

Tue, 06 Sep 2022 17:34:00 +0200

Often the thing you use most and take for granted is the most important in your life. However, we don’t often consider it important until something goes wrong. Think about having a cut at the end of any finger.

Being nostalgic with tools

Mon, 05 Sep 2022 17:37:00 +0200

Letting go of things is one of my biggest vices. I’m not a hoarder, but it takes me time to get rid of stuff as I get attached to them.

EDIT: There is no longer a comments section, but feel free to subscribe to the newsletter or email me.

If it’s clunky it’ll make you unproductive

Fri, 02 Sep 2022 17:42:00 +0200

The more clunky the app, the less likely you will use it. It’s a simple fact. How do I know? Well, it comes from the clients I work with. Not only that, but it also comes from my personal experience.

Upgrading your business

Thu, 01 Sep 2022 17:44:00 +0200

Even though change is difficult for many, we all know that changing things in your business will always help make it run smoother. So upgrading the tech will help you future-proof and expand easier.

Here’s why your Mac is slow or isn’t starting

Wed, 31 Aug 2022 17:45:00 +0200

There are many reasons why your Mac will be slow or not boot at all. But one of the common reasons is that it’s running out of space. Did the Apple Store Genius tell you that iCloud could help? Uh oh! Watch this to learn more.

Your business needs to evolve

Tue, 30 Aug 2022 17:47:00 +0200

No matter how we run our business, there might be a time that we’ll need to evolve our business to stay in business. But if the tech you use isn’t in order, you will feel the hurt more than you can imagine. So make it easy for yourself.

Backup is great, but offline is better!

Mon, 29 Aug 2022 17:50:00 +0200

We all know that having a backup of our data is essential. So why is it that when you’re posting something long-form, you use an online tool/platform that could easily not save/update or store your data correctly?!

Complicated tech shittery

Fri, 26 Aug 2022 19:06:00 +0200

Getting frustrated with tech is annoying and infuriating, so when a company thinks of making a product, they never think about the shittery they’re creating when it has a problem or issue.

It’s always hard in the beginning

Thu, 25 Aug 2022 19:08:00 +0200

Nothing you do will ever be easy or simple, especially if you’re new to what you’re trying to solve. However, once you dig in and start implementing it, you’ll find that all that hard work was oh so worth it!

Jump in feet first and learn while doing

Wed, 24 Aug 2022 19:13:00 +0200

Sometimes it’s easier just to dive in feet-first and learn while doing what needs to be done. It can be daunting, frightening and even challenging, but we should always be learning, growing and experiencing new things.

Using apps you already have

Tue, 23 Aug 2022 19:18:00 +0200

The simpler your workflow, the more you can get done. It sounds simple, but many don’t realise how the apps they already have on their Macs can do more than they think. With the added benefit of not spending more money too!

What password manager should you use

Mon, 22 Aug 2022 19:20:00 +0200

Your life could be a constant holiday

Fri, 19 Aug 2022 19:23:00 +0200

Doing what you want in your life is the ultimate goal. Many like having their two-week holiday in the sun, but what if it was possible to have a constant holiday? Well, you can. It’s called living the life you already have.

Planning for the worst

Thu, 18 Aug 2022 19:35:00 +0200

It’s never good when your Mac or the tech you use in your business stops working.

But, can you continue working and delivering your services to your clients when that happens?

Do you have a plan in case it does happen?

The problem with email inbox zero

Wed, 17 Aug 2022 07:26:00 +0200

Inbox zero is great, but if you’re only doing it for aesthetics, you do not understand the whole issue. My mistake has been not explaining what it means when I post screenshots of my email window on 𝕏.

The right tools are better than any ‘system’

Tue, 16 Aug 2022 07:29:00 +0200

Having an external individual exert their ‘system’ on you or your team is a recipe for disaster. You can’t change someone’s way of working just because your ‘system’ works for YOU.

Your email privacy should always matter

Mon, 15 Aug 2022 07:30:00 +0200

Your privacy and security belong to you. No one should be able to know when you’ve read, opened, or clicked a link. Nor should they know what location, device or email app you use. It’s just not right!

Your best idea is usually your first

They say you should always be listening to your body. That way, you can be proactive before getting sick.

The same thing is valid for listening to your gut feeling when doing something in/for your business.

No question is a stupid question

Thu, 11 Aug 2022 07:47:00 +0200

The very fact you have to ask a question means you’re willing to learn. So if you answer a question, and it’s wrong, don’t think of it as you being wrong. That’s especially true when it comes to the pronunciation of someone’s name.

Does your tech bring you joy?

Wed, 10 Aug 2022 07:53:00 +0200

Doing something that doesn’t bring you joy is no fun. Doing work with tools you don’t like is no different. There’s nothing worse than doing your work with apps that suck and are challenging to use.

Lets talk about finding the right tools for you!

Minimise your business tools

Tue, 09 Aug 2022 07:55:00 +0200

The more tool you have, the less work you’ll do.

That might sound counterintuitive.

But the more you bounce from one tool, app or service to another just doing something simple can take more time and effort than you realise.

What to Keep IT Simple? Let’s talk!

How not to forget your best ideas

Mon, 08 Aug 2022 10:17:00 +0200

The older we get, the more we forget. I know in my case that’s true, so taking notes for ideas, thoughts and things you want to remember for your work is vital. And the ability to take those notes anywhere is even more so.

You’re wasting way too much time on email

Wed, 03 Aug 2022 10:25:00 +0200

We all know wasting time in our business can cost us money. So why waste time on things that could be simplified? Email is such a powerful tool that we forget it’s a time suck if we’re not using it in the best possible way.

Too busy to fix your busyness

Tue, 02 Aug 2022 10:26:00 +0200

Fri, 29 Jul 2022 10:29:00 +0200

External input can be a great thing, but often we delve so deep into the idea of it being a good thing for us and our business that we lose sight of what would work, is working or will never work.

So stepping back can be an excellent way to see clearly.

Having everything in one place

Thu, 28 Jul 2022 10:32:00 +0200

Having the tools, you need to do your work should be as easy as everything else you do during the day. Life is hard enough already. We don’t need our tech adding more friction.

Fearing tech isn’t the answer

Fri, 22 Jul 2022 10:41:00 +0200

We all need to use tech in our lives, whether for work or personal use. Even though many fear using technology altogether, some fear using it due to the wrong choice rather than the tech itself.

The pitfalls of working remotely

Thu, 21 Jul 2022 10:47:00 +0200

You can get all the advice you can, but if it’s wrong, you’re back to square one and none the wiser.

Working remotely does have its challenges, but if done right, your tech will be future proof and you’ll be a master nomad in no time.

You don’t have to use all the features

Wed, 20 Jul 2022 10:49:00 +0200

Humans are nest makers. They’re hoarders. And when it comes to tech and the apps they use. They want to use all its features because they have this idea they’re missing out on something. But that’s oh so wrong!

Humans have a great way of making things easier, simpler, and more comfortable.

That shouldn’t just stop because you’re at work. Making your work and life easier should be on top of your list.

Many don’t understand simplicity

Thu, 14 Jul 2022 10:58:00 +0200

I get it. Not many are ‘in to’ simplicity, nor are they interested in making things easier for themselves. But when speakers talk about making things simple, who seem to have no understanding of what simplicity means, it just gets my goat!

Wed, 13 Jul 2022 10:59:00 +0200

If you want to be more productive, do less. That might sound like voodoo magic, but with tools like TextExpander you can make the work you do on your Mac way easier and quicker.

Multitasking is overrated

Tue, 12 Jul 2022 11:02:00 +0200

Multitasking can be good in many ways, but when it comes to working on your Mac, or any computer, it can be a distraction. I’ve found that working on one app or task at a time yields way more productive than trying to do too much at the same time.

Apple Mail: Organisation without folders

Mon, 11 Jul 2022 11:03:00 +0200

Using Apple Mail is easier when you use it simply. Email is the simplest tool in your toolbox, but over the years, I’ve found many making it more complicated than it needs to be. So I’m going to show you how not using folders will help.

Wanting and needing are two different things

Fri, 08 Jul 2022 11:05:00 +0200

Not knowing what you need is annoying. But even worse is to get something you want. Why? Mainly because it’s probably not going to work for you.

Just because you see someone with something you ‘want’, doesn’t mean it will be right for you.

How to keep your Apple Mac secure

Thu, 07 Jul 2022 11:07:00 +0200

There are many ways you can keep your Apple Mac secure. In this video, I’ll go through the most important and give some tips on how to keep your data safe, secure and away from prying eyes.

Before it gets too complicated, simplify

Wed, 06 Jul 2022 11:19:00 +0200

We don’t wake up one day to declare we want to complicate our lives. It’s a gradual thing that happens.

And it happens while we’re busy working or living our lives. But once we feel burnout coming, we seek a solution to fix it.

Apple Mail: The power of simplicity

Tue, 05 Jul 2022 11:30:00 +0200

The only app, or service, you will never be able to be without is email.

And on the Apple Mac, the only app that works best is Apple Mail due to its power of simplicity and the ‘it just works’ ethos.

Always secure your Apple data and passwords

Mon, 04 Jul 2022 14:24:00 +0200

Keeping our data and passwords safe is vital in today’s world. We live online, so whether we like it or not, we need to sure our data is safe should be as important as keeping our keys and wallets safe when we’re out and about.

Ecamm Live is what I use to record my videos

Fri, 01 Jul 2022 14:26:00 +0200

Making videos is hard. Making daily videos is even harder. So to make that process easier on yourself, you need to use the tools that make your life simpler. For me, I use Ecamm Live to help me record the raw material.

Don’t focus on the software

Thu, 30 Jun 2022 14:28:00 +0200

Productivity shouldn’t be something you’re taught how to do. It should be you just getting your work done. So using the tools or software should come from the way you work, not from some guru who tells you what you should use.

Systemising your business

Wed, 29 Jun 2022 14:30:00 +0200

Getting things done quickly within your business gives you more time for your clients and business. So once you have a system, you’ll be able to work more efficiently, be more productive and have plenty of time for yourself.

Identifying friction points

Tue, 28 Jun 2022 14:32:00 +0200

Everyone at some point will have a problem with their Apple tech and not realise they’ve already identified the issue or friction point. And need to find a solution. So once you know there is a problem, there is no problem.

Email organisation with an Apple CRM

Mon, 27 Jun 2022 06:54:00 +0200

Getting your email organised can be a nightmare. But what if you could use a CRM in your business to track any email you receive? Whether it’s for a client, a project or a lead. Wouldn’t that make your life so much simpler?

Be busy doing nothing

Fri, 24 Jun 2022 06:56:00 +0200

Wouldn’t it be great to have all the time in the world to get all your work done? And have so much free time for yourself that you feel so bored being busy doing nothing?

Online vs offline Apple apps for your business

Thu, 23 Jun 2022 07:00:00 +0200

With many SaaS apps and services, you need the internet to function as a business. But what if you’re away or most of the time you work remotely and have no access to the internet?

My Mac dock

Wed, 22 Jun 2022 09:24:00 +0200

After being away on my road trip, I thought it was time to switch it up a little and show you my latest Mac Dock setup.

It’s lean and functional, with everything needed to run a business or two.

Your tech foundation is vital to your business

Wed, 22 Jun 2022 07:02:00 +0200

When I talk to small businesses about their Apple tech and how it’s used, they often say they have problems with keeping track of things. My response is always: Having a solid tech foundation will help.

Not following the Apple ’how to’ herd

Tue, 21 Jun 2022 07:03:00 +0200

Are you interested in me making more ‘how to’ type videos? For me, my videos are about simplicity. And making sure my viewers and clients benefit from my ideas and thoughts.

Apple apps for your business

Mon, 20 Jun 2022 07:04:00 +0200

It’s not always necessary to go out and buy a bunch of software to run your business. You already have Apple devices with a ton of software you could use.

Don’t ‘unread it’. Deal with it!

Fri, 17 Jun 2022 07:06:00 +0200

Doing something later is ok at times. But when it comes to your email inbox, you have to deal with it the moment you have read it. Leaving it ‘unread’ is a recipe for disaster.

Everyone’s always rushing

Thu, 16 Jun 2022 07:09:00 +0200

After being away in southern Spain, where life is so much slower, on the drive back I’ve realised people are always rushing for no reason. I feel the need to decompress by taking another trip just to relax!

Some like the complexity

Wed, 15 Jun 2022 09:13:00 +0200

Over the years, I’ve found that many like to complicate their existence for the sole purpose of looking good from the outside. Let me tell you now that ‘busyness’ is not a great way to live your life.

Parasitic complicators

Tue, 14 Jun 2022 09:24:00 +0200

On my road trip through Spain, I’ve been to Isolated beaches, pine forests and national parks, where I’ve spent the evening looking at the stars. Travelling back to ‘civilisation’, I’ve seen nothing but complications.

Apple didn’t kill the password

Mon, 13 Jun 2022 09:36:00 +0200

Since last week’s Apple WWDC many have been talking about Apple ‘killing’ the password. Now, this could be true, as the PassKey system looks pretty convenient, but at what cost, and is it safe?

World of beauty and simplicity

Fri, 10 Jun 2022 09:38:00 +0200

The world is simple, but we insist on making things complicated. It’s not just me saying this. It’s been said in the past. But I still can’t fathom why people seem to love complicated BS!

Letting go is hard

Thu, 09 Jun 2022 09:39:00 +0200

It’s always nice to keep an old t-shirt or even an old bag, but to keep software or hardware you use o a daily basis just because you’ve used it for years isn’t always a good idea.

More life. Less work.

Wed, 08 Jun 2022 09:42:00 +0200

Hustle culture has to stop. We all need to work for obvious reasons like rent etc. However, do you need to work as hard as you are?

Apple’s new productivity push

Tue, 07 Jun 2022 09:45:00 +0200

Every year Apple puts on a show called the WWDC for developers. And it previews the next operating systems for their devices. This year, it seems, they’re pushing into the productivity space.

Boost your productivity with constraints

Mon, 06 Jun 2022 09:47:00 +0200

You’ll often find that when you’re put in a position that’s out of your comfort zone, you’ll deal with the situation with resources around you and get it done. It’s no different when you have less tech.

Freedom to roam

Fri, 03 Jun 2022 09:50:00 +0200

Simplicity played a major part if you want to have the freedom to do anything you want, The more complex your life, the more annoying it will be. The same goes for your tech and how it’s set up.

Don’t fear failure

Thu, 02 Jun 2022 09:52:00 +0200

Failing at something is never a sign of a bad decision. It’s more of a success story than you might think. Failing often is more of a sign of your willingness to learn from those failures.

Road to simplicity

Wed, 01 Jun 2022 10:26:00 +0200

We have too much stuff. We don’t understand why. We just need to find a way to have less and enjoy our lives. The road to simplicity can be hard, to begin with, but once done, you’ll let go of your burdens.

My iPhone setup for a road trip

Sat, 28 May 2022 09:26:00 +0200

It’s always good to have your iPhone setup correctly when you’re going on a long road trip.

Here’s mine as I set off for a road trip with Woof! to Spain for a few weeks!

Things 3 task manager with no tags

Tue, 24 May 2022 09:27:00 +0200

When I say I use no tags in my task manager, I really do mean no tags whatsoever! You don’t need tags to get stuff done. You only need the right system and app to help you achieve anything you need.

Always be backing up!

Wed, 18 May 2022 09:28:00 +0200

When you buy a new hard drive, make sure you buy a second one so you can back up your data.

Simpler. Calmer. Clutter-free.

Wed, 20 Apr 2022 09:29:00 +0200

It’s not hard to have a clean and clutter-free workspace. You just need to de-clutter and squash bad habits. This is my desktop and Spaces.

HEY! It's not you, it's me!

Tue, 19 Apr 2022 09:30:00 +0200

I was one of the first people on the list when Basecamp announced HEY. I was intrigued, and excited and couldn’t wait to get my hand on a simpler email workflow.

Paid for the first year, got a fantastic alias and there I was using Hey for the year. But, the year wasn’t without issues, but I persevered and it worked out fine.

Vimeo, and their BS!

Fri, 25 Mar 2022 08:31:00 +0100

I’ve been using Vimeo to host my videos for many years, and have been happy with their service. I even toyed with their live streaming tier for a while.

However, this last week I heard something from the company that simply pissed me off! After a search, I found others who were equally annoyed. So the search for a new video hosting company began.

My iPhone dock

Thu, 03 Mar 2022 08:34:00 +0100

As you know, I don’t use a conventional CRM for my business. Yeah, sacrilege if you’re running a business! Yet, I’ve always been able to keep up with my clients and leads with no issues.

I find CRMs to be bloated and have no place in the way I work, and being a Tech Minimalist, that piece of software isn’t needed.

‍But last year when looking to see what was around at the time I found an app called Mogul. I even had a conversation with Chris, the founder to talk a little about it.

Friday Fury: Just ship it

Fri, 07 Jan 2022 09:28:00 +0100

Is it just me? Am I being oversensitive? I don’t think so. Why should SaaS companies get away with releasing software and apps under the guise of; ‘just ship it’, when there are bugs and features missing?!

Stop the complexity

Thu, 06 Jan 2022 09:31:00 +0100

We seem to relish complexity. We understand that it’s harmful to us and eats into the finite time we have. But we still pursue this elusive thing called complexity for some reason. Why is that?

Basecamp update

Thu, 06 Jan 2022 08:35:00 +0100

Yesterday, Basecamp pushed an update with some handy tools. A most welcomed feature is called Lineup, where now you can add start and end dates to projects, and they show up on the Home Page.

Not only that, but this Lineup feature gets a dedicated page too, where you can view all projects, past and present, in a handy little timeline.

The simpler the better

Wed, 05 Jan 2022 10:51:00 +0100

We all long for simplicity, but we often don’t realise what that means. We’re inundated with companies and people telling us their version of simplicity only to find they’re talking about complexity, not simplicity.

My Mac dock

Wed, 05 Jan 2022 08:37:00 +0100

Here’s my Mac dock. Simple. On point. And very, very versatile. What’s in your dock? I’d be interested to know.

Solution to a problem

Tue, 04 Jan 2022 10:54:00 +0100

Be the architect, not the builder. This is something I heard a while back and stuck with me. There’s nothing wrong with being a builder, but sometimes one’s mind is more geared towards finding solutions rather than building them.

Show, don’t tell

Mon, 03 Jan 2022 11:26:00 +0100

Sharing what we plan to do can be more detrimental to our plan than we realise. We often don’t get to do everything we plan out, especially in a new year, so showing and doing what we want, and failing, is better than dreaming of what we wish to do.

Friday Fury with Adrian Oprea

Fri, 24 Dec 2021 10:04:00 +0100

Fake gurus. Snake oil salesmen. And even non-expert financial advice. No, that’s now what we’re doing. That’s what we’re calling out. And in this Friday Fury, my last film of the year, I wanted it to be unique. So I enlisted a good friend, who I met on LinkedIn, Adrian Oprea, to join us as we wave farewell to the charlatans of 2021.

Woof! has his own blanked now

Mon, 20 Dec 2021 11:47:00 +0100

Simplify your note-taking process

Tue, 30 Nov 2021 10:06:00 +0100

I’m confused as to why some make the simplest of simple actions like taking notes more and more complicated. The only conclusion I’ve come up with is the fear of missing out.

Great knowledge is out there

Mon, 29 Nov 2021 10:09:00 +0100

We can’t know everything, even though we think we do. There is so much information out there that we often think we know it all, but there’s always something we can learn.

Gain clarity by talking to a peer

Thu, 25 Nov 2021 10:15:00 +0100

Humans are creatures of comfort. We’re also creatures that need contact with other humans to create and share ideas. So talking to a peer about our thoughts can and will help us move forward.

Don't be 'salesy

Thu, 25 Nov 2021 08:38:00 +0100

People always gravitate towards good art. The constant battle to ‘game’ the algorithm is all in vain. Nothing will work, no matter what you do to your post, page or bio.

The secret to online marketing without being ‘salesy’?

You already have the app!

Wed, 24 Nov 2021 10:18:00 +0100

Don’t get bogged down with trying to find an app to help you do that one thing. You’ll find that you probably already have something that can do it, and do it well!

Search for a simpler app

Tue, 23 Nov 2021 10:20:00 +0100

We’re inundated with apps and tools. However, most are full of bloat and feature we never need. And because of that, we often stop using them. I wish developers reached out to users before they start building.

Niche down on social media

Mon, 22 Nov 2021 10:23:00 +0100

The idea of niching down on something isn’t a new one. It’s the best thing to do when you’re in business. However, I think it’s also valid when It comes to the social media platforms you use.

Friday Fury: Fake experts

Fri, 19 Nov 2021 10:26:00 +0100

Getting advice from a fake expert will kill your business. I’m amazed at how many are out there giving shockingly bad advice. Even they don’t have their own shit together!

Never cheap out on tools

Thu, 18 Nov 2021 10:28:00 +0100

Don’t get caught out with the allure of check tools. You’ll regret it in the end and will be kicking yourself for not choosing the right tools that’ll last and be beneficial to your business.

Scheduling with SavvyCal

Wed, 17 Nov 2021 10:31:00 +0100

Finding tools, apps and services that make things simple is a passion of mine. Today I want to bring your attention to a scheduling tool called SavvyCal. It’s simple. Clean and makes scheduling easy and personalised.

Content creation and the tech

Tue, 16 Nov 2021 08:45:00 +0100

Too much tech is never great. When it comes to your video or podcast production tech, it’s no different. Having too many ’toys’ can hinder your creativity and when you start, it’s simply not needed.

Using video in your business

Mon, 15 Nov 2021 08:49:00 +0100

I love making videos. It helps my prospective client understand who I am, and how I work, and they get to ‘know’ me a little before they get in touch. It’s vital for my business, and it should be for you too.

Friday Fury: Kia Kamgar

Fri, 12 Nov 2021 08:51:00 +0100

We often get advice from people around us that we love and respect. But often that advice is coming from a place of love and not from a perspective that we need to move us forward.

Do you own your data?

Thu, 11 Nov 2021 08:54:00 +0100

Your email is the glue that holds your digital life together, and without it, you could lose the key to all your data. So making sure you ‘own your keys’ is vitally important. Here’s what I had to deal with when my email stopped working.

It’s ok not to know

Wed, 10 Nov 2021 08:59:00 +0100

We can’t all know everything. Now I’m the kind of person interested in learning and actually like, to be able to do everything myself. I’m not a control freak. But I enjoy knowing how to do lots of things. But it’s okay not to know everything.

Things don’t last forever

Mon, 08 Nov 2021 09:04:00 +0100

As you know, I’ve been making videos for a couple of years. Now since the pandemic or just before the pandemic hit the end of 2019. But for the past few months, I haven’t been making videos, and I was trying to figure out why I wasn’t making the videos.

Amongst the trees overlooking the ocean

Mon, 27 Sep 2021 16:04:00 +0200

Friday Fury: Apple Support is a fucking joke

Fri, 03 Sep 2021 10:13:00 +0200

You know, one thing that really irritates me is people not doing their jobs properly. And I’m sure you are the same.

Revisiting an old friend: Daylite

Thu, 02 Sep 2021 10:15:00 +0200

Yesterday I spoke about being able to work when you’re offline when you don’t have an internet connection because I was on holiday, a lot of people that are on holiday and they can’t always work without the internet. Things like Google Drive and Dropbox, stuff like that.

Working from home vs remote work

Wed, 01 Sep 2021 10:19:00 +0200

You may or may not know that last week I wasn’t around, and I was on a road trip to Portugal and kind of Spain. It’s a long story. I’ll save that for another time.‍

The grass is just fine

Wed, 11 Aug 2021 10:21:00 +0200

With the work that I do, I have to go and find software solutions, basically, any kind of solutions, for my clients.

And what that entails is me using that software for a particular amount of time to make sure that I’m happy with how they work, how they function and whether it would work for any of my clients.

Giving value to time

Tue, 10 Aug 2021 10:24:00 +0200

Everyone’s time is valuable. But we don’t really think about what that means. And I think I, after 50 odd years, have realised what time means to me.

P.S. If you’re struggling with time in your business, we should talk.

It’s ok to be wrong

Mon, 09 Aug 2021 10:26:00 +0200

As business people who run businesses, entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, small businesses, etc. we tend to know our business and what we do.

Friday Fury: Whereby

Fri, 23 Jul 2021 10:29:00 +0200

In today’s Friday Fury, I’ll demonstrate some things on my Mac and express my amazement at the sheer stupidity of this company, which labels itself under every name imaginable.

Avoid the software trap

Fri, 16 Jul 2021 15:23:00 +0200

Software and apps are increasingly becoming more complex. This complexity often arises because companies add numerous features in response to constant user demands.

This should scare you

Fri, 16 Jul 2021 08:16:00 +0200

After 30 years in tech, I’ve encountered countless issues ranging from broken hard drives to stolen computers. I’m still astonished that people generally do not take better care of their data.

How not to forget great ideas

Wed, 14 Jul 2021 08:18:00 +0200

Like me, you might get ideas anywhere—from the shower to walking the dog. I constantly generate new concepts during these routine moments.

Simplicity is hard

Tue, 13 Jul 2021 08:21:00 +0200

We’ve honed our skills to serve our clients, understanding both our craft and their needs. This expertise, once packaged, effectively meets our clients’ demands.

You only need a Rolodex and some Post-its

Mon, 12 Jul 2021 08:25:00 +0200

If I suggested managing your business using Rolodexes and Post-it notes, you’d probably think I was nuts. And you’d be partly correct.

We learn from our mistakes

Fri, 09 Jul 2021 08:30:00 +0200

This week I’ve been reflecting a lot on the concept of failure, specifically how we can grow and learn from our mistakes.

Why I’m never busy

Thu, 08 Jul 2021 08:35:00 +0200

I often emphasise the importance of avoiding the state of being ‘busy’. Yes, there are tasks that need to be done, but constantly being or labelling oneself as ‘busy’ is counterproductive.

Happiness is time without friction

Wed, 07 Jul 2021 07:46:00 +0200

I frequently discuss simplicity, Tech Minimalism, and all things that streamline life. However, one topic I rarely touch upon is happiness and its meaning.

Want to simplify?

Be ruthless and say NO!

Tue, 06 Jul 2021 07:50:00 +0200

I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I love the fact I can connect with people around the globe. But hate the grind and the complex it is now.

I’m not too fond of slides. they take away from the story you’re trying to convey, and they often don’t look right. So for the past week, I was thinking of using slides. But in a way, that didn’t take away from my story.

Sun, 09 May 2021 09:41:00 +0200

Some ask me why I send out my newsletter to my subscribers on a Friday. Well, other than the fact that the majority of the people taking my survey told me so. It’s because every day should be a personal day.

They can't fix every problem

Mon, 29 Mar 2021 09:57:00 +0200

Over the weekend, I pondered the claim “We’re here to fix the problem of…” that some SaaS/software companies try to peddle. I don’t buy it, because they don’t know MY problem as they haven’t worked with me.

Stop paying for nothing

Life shouldn't be incidental

Thu, 25 Mar 2021 09:03:00 +0100

Enjoying life is what it’s all about, right? Well, if you make life more of a priority than your work, then yes. However, I’ve found that many make their life incidental to their work. And that, to me, is a wasted life.

Simplicity isn't for everyone

Wed, 24 Mar 2021 09:06:00 +0100

Do you crave simplicity? It’s one of those questions that’s replied with a ‘yes’, but often, the actual answer is ’no’. As strange as that sounds, this is precisely how some prospective clients see it when it comes to simplifying their tech and IT.

Do you value your time?

Tue, 23 Mar 2021 09:09:00 +0100

Time is something we all don’t have much of, even though we think we do.

Is it vanity, metrics or both?

Tue, 23 Mar 2021 08:43:00 +0100

I’m not for metrics, never have been, although there was a time, many moons ago, that I wanted to know everything that happened on my site. But looking at the numbers gave me anxiety!

So in the past few years, I stopped counting. I stopped tracking and stopped thinking about it. However, sometimes it’s good to know what’s happening, so I’ll tip my toe into the metrics I do have.

How much data do you need?

Wed, 17 Mar 2021 09:31:00 +0100

We collect, gather and hoard way too much data that we need to. Have you thought about the impact it’s having on our mental state? And the energy we use to keep data that we will probably never need or use?

I love hearing from people, but...

Sat, 06 Mar 2021 08:46:00 +0100

We all love human interaction. The warmth of the voice, the glee we feel when we’re wanted.

But at what cost?!

HEY has a Screener feature that I love and can’t imagine ever going back to a ’normal’ email client/service. It’s made my email life so much simpler by weeding out unwanted or unimportant emails.

The company I’ve run for the past 14 years has accumulated over 6000 clients, and it’s been a fantastic journey. Still, alas, I’ll be sunsetting MacJunky pretty soon as my current venture is taking me in a great new direction, so I’ll need to focus more on that.

Copywriting done right

Keeping your Mac secured

Protecting your email privacy

Tue, 09 Feb 2021 09:51:00 +0100

Just by using email, you could be leaking a ton of personal information that you’re not aware of.

Never reuse your password

Mon, 08 Feb 2021 09:53:00 +0100

The best way to stay safe and secure is to make sure you never reuse your password.

Keeping your passwords safe

Fri, 05 Feb 2021 09:55:00 +0100

Keeping your passwords safe should be high on your list when it comes to your tech. Unfortunately, I’ve seen some very inventing, alas not so secure, ways my clients file their passwords.

Don't fear simplicity

Thu, 04 Feb 2021 09:59:00 +0100

Fear is a good thing, but often it’s a misguided feeling when you know deep down that it’s the fear that’s pulling you back from progressing from the position you’re currently in.

Am I a Tech Communist?

Wed, 03 Feb 2021 10:02:00 +0100

When someone says something, you have to listen, and in today’s video, I talk about being called a Tech Communist.

Adapt or die

Tue, 02 Feb 2021 10:05:00 +0100

Don’t be left behind, holding on to your idea of what’s right. Look around, learn and understand what your needs are.

Does it 'fit' you?

Mon, 01 Feb 2021 10:07:00 +0100

It’s not often that you send back clothes are you’ve bought them, but when you do, there’s a good reason why you did.

Make IT transferable

Fri, 29 Jan 2021 10:09:00 +0100

Making things simple for yourself is the best way to create time. So making things transferable and reproducible will help you minimise your frustrations.

Know where your data is

Thu, 28 Jan 2021 10:11:00 +0100

Help is available if we know what the issue is and how to resolve it together.

Unfortunately, it seems that some don’t know where things are, so it makes it really difficult to fix what needs to be done simply.

Less is always an option

Wed, 27 Jan 2021 10:14:00 +0100

After speaking with a few clients today, one of them gave me a soundbite that made so much sense as to what I do and what I’m trying to convey that I thought I’d share it.

Free isn't always free

Tue, 26 Jan 2021 10:20:00 +0100

We know the saying ‘if it’s free, you’re the product’ but did you also know that just because you’re using a free email service you wouldn’t be paying for it in some other way?

Software is the new drug

Mon, 25 Jan 2021 10:31:00 +0100

If you’re not careful with picking the right apps and tools to use, personally or within your business, you might find yourself hooked on software that you can’t reliably get away from.

Minimal effort, maximum output

Fri, 22 Jan 2021 10:33:00 +0100

Well are all lazy and want an easy way to do things and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

The power of less

Thu, 21 Jan 2021 10:35:00 +0100

Being intentional is a superpower when it comes to staying focused. And ’the power of less’ is something I teach all my clients to help with that idea when it comes to their tech.

Simplicity with multiple tools

Wed, 20 Jan 2021 10:37:00 +0100

The idea that one tool can help you and your business to get things done is something that can ruin your workflow. They do exist, but they don’t do anyone right.

The power of 'NO

Tue, 19 Jan 2021 10:39:00 +0100

The more you say ‘YES’ to things, the less time you have to yourself.

It’s not always good to accept new projects, tools or favours you do because that will inevitably suck the time you have for yourself.

Laziness is the best ROI

Mon, 18 Jan 2021 10:42:00 +0100

It’s never a good idea to call yourself ’lazy’, but sometimes it’s the best way to explain the way you work and how you can help your clients to become more efficient and focused.

Backing up explained

Fri, 15 Jan 2021 10:44:00 +0100

Many make the mistake of thinking that just having data on iCloud that it’s ‘backed up’ but that’s far from the truth. So I’ll be going over the best ways to back up your data, so everything is safe and sound.

Be nice and smile

Thu, 14 Jan 2021 10:46:00 +0100

There are many things Apple doesn’t do right, but now and again they pull through, and being friendly and smiling will always help you get them on your side. So there was good news for me when I visited the Apple store yesterday!

Once it's gone, it's gone

Wed, 13 Jan 2021 10:48:00 +0100

For the past few years, Apple has created smaller MacBooks; with that, the SSDs have also gotten smaller. But now the SSD, RAM and CPU are on one chip, so if your Mac dies, your data does too!

iCloud is not a back up

Tue, 12 Jan 2021 10:49:00 +0100

Many make the mistake of thinking that just using iCloud will save them from data loss. This is a huge mistake. iCloud is a syncing service and not a backup service.

All is not lost

Mon, 11 Jan 2021 10:51:00 +0100

Losing your Mac is hard, but losing your data is unimaginable.

Limiting your inboxes

Fri, 08 Jan 2021 10:53:00 +0100

In this live stream replay, I go through what an ‘inbox’ means to me and how it can save you time so you can be even more productive by limiting them.

Storm before the calm

Thu, 07 Jan 2021 10:58:00 +0100

Once the storm is out of the way, the calming starts, even though that’s not quite how the saying goes, It’s something to consider when it comes to the adoption of new technology or a new workflow.

Don't be set in your ways

Wed, 06 Jan 2021 11:01:00 +0100

Doing the same thing repeatedly thinking ’this is fine’ isn’t going to help you be more productive. It’s only going to slow you down and get you frustrated more than you think.

Riding the wrong wave

Tue, 05 Jan 2021 11:03:00 +0100

We often follow others blindly when it comes to choosing our apps and services.

Embrace your weaknesses

Mon, 04 Jan 2021 11:04:00 +0100

Is it time to stop using Zoom?

Tue, 22 Dec 2020 12:38:00 +0100

Last week, I read a scary article about Zoom and how they might be monitoring the calls we all are having.

As you know, I’m very much against ‘big tech’ having too much information about us. This is one reason I stopped using Facebook many years ago. Even Google has a lot to answer for when It comes to privacy and the data they collect while we’re surfing the web.

Anyhow, back to Zoom. If like me, you’d prefer to use another app to do your remote calls, then watch my live stream tomorrow! In the stream, I’ll be going over a few alternatives and how you can easily remove Zoom from being your default app for remote meetings.

The live stream will be on December 22, 2020, at 19:00

So save the date and join the live stream tomorrow and let’s stay safer on the internet together.

Humans are creatures of bad habits

Mon, 20 Jul 2020 13:54:00 +0200

Fixing a bad habit is one of the hardest things you can do. You have first to realise you have a bad habit, then seek a way to, well, fix it.

Friday Fury: Password security

Fri, 17 Jul 2020 14:24:00 +0200

I’m still baffled as to why people (companies and individuals) yet haven’t grasped the fact that using a simple password, or even worse, using the same password for multiple accounts is a bad thing.

Bouncing between tools won’t help

Thu, 16 Jul 2020 14:26:00 +0200

We’ve all been guilty of this, me more than others. But bouncing between tools, apps and services in search of new shiny things, won’t help you focus on what needs to get done.

What’s Tech Minimalism?

Wed, 15 Jul 2020 14:29:00 +0200

Talking about, backup again!

Tue, 14 Jul 2020 14:32:00 +0200

I may sound like a broken record about backing up your data, but it’s so important.

Step back and take a top-down view to fix things

Mon, 13 Jul 2020 14:35:00 +0200

Often you need to step back from a situation to be able to fix it properly. This is also true with the way you work.

Email automation isn’t for everyone

Tue, 30 Jun 2020 14:37:00 +0200

Thu, 25 Jun 2020 14:42:00 +0200

Mon, 15 Jun 2020 18:58:00 +0200

Thu, 14 May 2020 08:41:00 +0200
