Summary

People get way too hung up on job titles and stories when someone just asks what they do. You need to be able to say it in less than five words, like firefighter, not regional water distributor. Otherwise it’s fluff, bullshit, and you’re a cunt. That’s the Friday Fury.

Raw

So this is a Friday Fury episode and as again if you don’t like me swearing go and watch all my other awesome videos. This one I’m going in.

Today’s Friday Fury is about what do you do, your job titles. I’ve been kind of following a lot of marketers, storytellers, podcasters about business and I’ve been listening recently to a guy called son Lee. He has a podcast and I listen to quite a few of them and he goes in on his community. So he has people from his community come on to the podcast to talk about their business and he does storytelling basically, how they can sell their business via storytelling.

Now I understand the concept of it and is very respectful and I don’t know how he does it. Because if it was me on that podcast, I would be going apeshit on these fucking people. Now, I’m not in any way being negative on what they do and them personally. But some of them have been in business for a short period, so I kind of get it. But some of them been in business for a longer period. They’re business men, women, business people. They should know what they do. And it just seems to me that they’re so fucking hung up on what they should, what their job title should be, then what they actually do.

If you can’t explain what you do in a quick conversation, and I’m not talking about elevator pitch, because elevator pitch, S.K., you’ve got to give a kind of a story. I’m talking about when you’re in a party and someone says, oh, what do you do? Why the fuck would you want to give them a whole story? They just want to know what the, are you in IT? Are you a firefighter? I mean, firefighter for instance. Think of this as a job title. This is what happens with job titles.

So the person’s a firefighter, for instance. And they would say, yeah, I’m a regional water distributor for a local. No, bitch, you’re a fucking firefighter that fights fire with fucking water. Don’t come up with a story. What do you do? It’s very easy, very quick. You have to get that point across. And if you have to come up with a story, no one gives a fuck about your story, especially when you’re talking to them then. When you’re working with them, they want to know what else you can do. Fine, they might hire you for other things. But if they ask you, what do you do? Just fucking tell them what you do. It’s really simple. It’s not that fucking difficult. And it’s just beyond comprehension that you had to come up with these job titles that mean fucking nothing.

One of the worst offenders is support champion. That fucking irritates the fuck out of me. Because I’m in support and I’m not a fucking champion. I just do what I do and I do it well.

So if someone asks you, what do you do? What do you say? What do you say? What do you have a… You need to be able to say it in less than five words. Less than five words. Otherwise, it’s fluff, it’s bullshit and you’re a cunt. That’s how I think. Anyway, that’s Friday Fury. I’ll see you. Have a good, great weekend and I’ll see you next week.
