I don’t look forward to the weekend
The weekends are great; we let our hair down and do things we would not normally do during the week due to work. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Summary
I don’t look forward to the weekend because every day is a weekend for me. It took 20 or 30 years to get here, not overnight. Success is owning my own time, not money or fancy things. Simplify everything and enjoy your life, and if you need to get away from your work, it might not be the right job.

I’m sure you’re one of those people that look forward to the weekend. I personally am not. I never look forward to the weekend. Because for me, every day is a weekend.
And now that sounds a bit blasé to say it or kind of, you know, I’m looking down at people. But if you really enjoy the things you do, the people you work with, the things that you work with, then the weekend doesn’t actually mean anything. Now that’s actually problematic as well. So the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the other side.
I love having a weekend, but the weekend doesn’t mean as much to me as someone who effectively does a 9 to 5 job. I don’t have a 9 to 5 job. I work for myself and I set my own hours and I do the things that I need to do and then enjoy my life for the rest of the time.
And for me to be able to do it, it’s taken a long time for me to get them. For me to be able to do that, I am privileged, but it’s taken me 20, 30 years to get to that stage. It’s not like an overnight success.
There was a saying, someone said, I don’t know, someone will probably correct me, put their name down below, if you know it. I became famous and it took overnight, but that overnight was 30 years, something like that. I’m paraphrasing, obviously. And it’s true. It’s not necessarily that you are famous or the word isn’t famous. Successful is the word.
Success means different things to different people. For me, success is I can do what I want and luckily everything gets paid. That’s success to me. Some people say Ferraris and Bugatti’s and houses and jets. That doesn’t mean anything to me whatsoever. I don’t believe that’s success for me. Success for me is to own my own time because we only get one life, we only get a certain amount of time, and I want to own it. I don’t want anyone else to own it.
So when I say the weekend means nothing to me, it’s mainly because I own my time and every day is a weekend for me, because I can do effectively whatever I want. And as I said, it’s taken me years to get to, to this stage. It’s not like an overnight success story.
And the reason I want to do that, because I think life is, life is to be experienced, not to live, not to exist. You need to live your life, but you’re not here to just exist. You’re here to enjoy your life and do the things with your dog. Woof!s up there. He was moving. That’s why I was looking over there.
Enjoy the things around you, the family, your dogs, your loved ones and stuff. And I’ve managed to do that, luckily, through what I do when I’m training, consulting, coaching, mentoring, I guess. And it’s enabled me to do that, but it’s taken a long time for me to do that.
The tech I use is simplified. My life is simplified. Things I do the way I dress even has become simplified. Not minimised. I’m not a minimalist. I keep talking about this. I don’t want to be known as the minimalist. So Tech Minimalism is an unfortunate phrase, but it’s actually quite correct in the sense that you’ve got to get rid of stuff. So that’s what minimalism means to a lot of people.
So simplify everything. Forget about the weekend and enjoy your life rather than work the 9 to 5 and looking forward to the weekend because you really just got to get away from it. Because if you need to get away from your work, it may not be the job that you really want to do.
That’s my take. I might be wrong. Correct me if I’m wrong. I might be wrong. So correct me.
Anyway, enjoy your day. As always, keep it simple. And I’ll see you in the next one. Ciao.
