Summary

New Year’s resolutions fail because they’re too big. And people just fall back into their old ways. The answer is baby steps, especially with tech. Because the software isn’t usually the problem, you and your system are. Figure out how you really want to work before buying anything, and make small goals instead of huge statements.

There are many who don’t like this time of year, the holidays and so on. I’m included in that list. But what people do like is the new start of a new year, where people can actually put forward their thoughts, ideas, and plans. And I’m no different, and I’m sure you’re no different either.

The problem is creating those resolutions, which is, you know, everyone calls it a New Year’s resolution, doesn’t always work out because we always fall back into the old way of working the old way that we did things. So for instance, I want to make a resolution going to the gym. Generally, that doesn’t work. That’s not my resolution. I’m just saying that’s what people would say. I want to diet. I want to lose weight. There’s such big, huge statements, effectively, resolutions that generally no one usually keeps to it.

What I find works best is actually creating smaller steps to your end goal rather than big steps. And, you know, this being a tech channel, and I always say it this way, and I’ve got to try to change the way I say that. But this is a tech channel. People usually say, I want to get things fixed from the new year, etc. but what they tend to do is go out and look for software to try to help them whereas the software isn’t the problem you’re the problem you in the sense that the way you work already is a problem so trying to fix that is not going to be any good so the point is to in with the new in with the new year you actually have to try to figure out the way that you really want to work first baby steps again before you go out and get the software they’re you need.

I talk about this many, many times, but every time I get a call with a client, the first thing they say is that I’ve got this new software and it’s not working. Well, it’s not working because your system isn’t work. Your system isn’t working. And getting a piece of software or a course that you’re doing or help from a friend isn’t generally going to help because they’re not helping you and your idea of the way you work.

So this new year, change the way you do things. Don’t expect a different outcome just because you’re doing something slightly different. Effectively, you’re doing the same thing. Just because you think you’re doing something different and think you’re going to get a different result isn’t going to work.

Me personally, this year is going to be huge. And I’m not one for making resolutions. I am one this year for the first time to actually come up with goals. I’ve actually said I don’t do goals and I don’t. These goals are kind of small things that I’m already doing but just enhancing them. I want to do better videos. I want to do a bit more vlogging. I want to do actually look after myself a bit more in the health side. Not that there’s anything wrong with me. I just want to get a little better because I’ve been sitting down for too long. So just little steps. And they’re things that I’m going to be doing.

So hopefully, in with the new, hopefully you can make your resolutions work by taking baby steps. Anyway, have a great day. Keep it simple as always. And I’ll see you in the next one. Ciao. Bye.
