Numbers mean nothing
The more I use the internet, the more I understand never to use social media numbers as a marker for anything, as they never help with your personal goal.

I’ve been looking into marketing and copywriting, and there’s this 50-50 split about numbers. I don’t care about follower counts, I care about enjoying my life and my bank account. Feedback emails mean way more than numbers. Same with tech, less tools means more done. Use three tools and stop worrying.

So I’ve been on the internet for a long, long time. And recently I’ve been looking into marketing, copywriting. Just want to see how I can make my website a little better. I want to eliminate a certain thing on my website.
What I’ve found, however, there are two sides. It’s like a 50-50 split where half people are saying, get loads of numbers, get lots of followers. And then there’s the other half saying, actually, you don’t need that many followers. Why are you worrying about the numbers? I’m actually in that camp. I don’t really worry about numbers so much.
What I care about is twofold. One, how is my life doing, i.e. am I enjoying my life? And the second part is, how’s my investments and bank account doing? I really couldn’t give two shits about how many followers I have. Yes, obviously getting lots of followers is validation to a certain degree. Getting feedback is way more validation.
I get so many emails, not so many DMs, but more emails than anything saying how I like your video. That video that you made was a great video. I like the message, whatever it is, I get great feedback. And those type of communication to me, those kind of numbers are way more meaningful than having a number. number attached to your profile.
So the less we have, again, the more benefit we have, that that works for me and I think it should work for everyone. If you’re constantly trying to get, you know, a massive, a bunch of followers, subscribers, that tells me more about your, I wouldn’t use the word integrity, but your, your lack of understanding more than it would by being kind of calm, relaxed and enjoying your life more.
This also has a domino effect on, this is such a weird segue, but also with your tech, if you have a lot of tools, you’re not going to get shit done. You’re just worrying about, you know, how good am I using this tool? Rather than selecting less than a handful, I use three tools for my whole business to run your business, three tools. I mean, why do you need loads of stuff?
So numbers to me don’t mean much. My bank account numbers mean a lot to mean, obviously, and the number of hours I can spend with, you know, my dog and my life means way more to me than people following me and not even interacting with me. I mean, it’s just pointless, I don’t see it. But there are lurkers and they’re welcome as well, but it’s not something I worry about.
The other thing is, I’ve just recently moved over to, hey, for my newsletter, blog, kind of, that doesn’t really give you any numbers. And I like the fact that it doesn’t. Ghost did, I looked at it now and again. I didn’t worry about it, but it’s just something, one less thing that I need to look at now as well by moving over to, hey.
