Summary

Remote work doesn’t mean you need an internet connection all the time. If your apps are online only, you’re stuck when there’s no connection. I make sure my tools, especially Apple apps and Daylite, work offline and sync later. Check your apps before travelling so you don’t let clients down.

Raw

I’m wearing a hat today. It’s sunny outside, but I’ve got bad hair day. So, yeah, I’ve got to deal with it.

As you know, I am an Apple consultant. I basically do my work remotely. I help my clients remotely with all their apps and Apple stuff and so on. The issue is remotely, and depending on where I am, I sometimes don’t have internet connection. Now, that’s kind of rubbish for doing remote work.

It is possible to do remote work without the internet because there’s a phone, right? So I do phone my clients a lot of times. But I also write emails when I don’t have internet. And it’s waiting to be sent.

Now, if you have that as an online app like G Suite, or if you use fast mail online, or if you use any of your apps or emails online where you need a browser, then you can’t do any work if there’s no internet connection. Then the other school of thought is, well, if there’s no internet connection, you shouldn’t work, you should be away.

But that’s not always possible because sometimes I want to be away, but I need to be able to do my work away from the internet. So I need to be able to do my work. Doesn’t mean I need to communicate with my clients. I still need access to my database, my contacts, what I’m doing for the project. I need access to all of that stuff.

But I can’t do that with a lot of apps. You can’t do that with a lot of apps if they’re online only. If your SaaS product is literally online, like Basecamp, for instance, like ClickUp, like pipe drive, like Asana, like a lot of these apps are pretty much, much online only.

So if you have no internet connection, you’re kind of screwed. You’re like, you have to wait until you get to a place where you have internet.

Last year when I went, uh, away, a lot of my apps didn’t work, but it was one app that did work. I mean, there’s lots of apps that work, but one app, which was Daylite, I had access to all the projects and stuff so I could keep on working. Most of the Apple apps, in fact, all of the Apple apps, even though they connect to iCloud, they work offline.

So you can use Apple notes. You can use reminders. You can actually use things three. There are some third party apps that you can use that don’t need the internet connection. The only issue is that if there’s no internet connection, you don’t have it synced with your phone. But if you’ve got your phone, you can work on it. You’ve got your Mac. You can work on it. When you get internet connection, then it just sinks.

So you’ve got to make sure that you can work anywhere if you’re, are working remotely because remote work doesn’t mean you have to have access to the internet. With some apps you do, but then that’s a pain in the part because you want to be in places that, you know, don’t have internet connections sometimes, but you still want to work.

It’s kind of a double-edged sword in a way, but if you choose the right apps for your business, that sync when they have internet connection, then you can work remotely wherever you are. You don’t have to worry about making sure you have internet everywhere.

So when you’re going away this summer and you want to work, make sure your tools do that. Otherwise, you’re stuck and you can’t do anything. Your client will call you and say, I need that report, I need that piece of information, and you have no internet connection, you can’t do anything. I have to get back to you tomorrow because I’m on. on the road. Well, that kind of sucks. But I can get all my information because all the tools that I have have all the information locally.

Anyway, with that, have a great day and I’ll see you in the next video. Ciao.
