Setting up an email server isn’t as hard as they say

I got fed up with ’leasing’ software and paying through the nose for SaaS products, so I spun up a VDS and got to work.

The main thing I needed was the ability to send my email newsletter without breaking the bank. So just the SMTP part of an email server.

Listening, reading and watching the ’tech bros’ talking about how hard it is to get ’email right’ scared me away from learning something I wanted.

But the only way to truly learn is to ‘do, break then fix’.

And that’s exactly what I did.

Although I’ve done it in the past, there were new rules, ‘regulations’, and settings to make email work were in effect.

But gain, the ’tech bros’ were making it scary with the crap there were spewing.

Forget the tech bros for a second…

Have you ever felt that some professions gate keep their knowledge to scare you off of the things you COULD do yourself?

Yeah, that shit happens all the freaking time!

I HATE being reliant on someone else. And I HATE being told things can’t be done. I prefer to do it, break it, then fix it!

I now don’t have to spend 100’s per month on my newsletter. And with the side effect of a really fast website to boot!

Win!

So when you want to do something, just do it. You should never regret failing. As it’s the ‘fails’ that help you gain knowledge to make your life better.
