Stepping back to square one

External input can be a great thing, but often we delve so deep into the idea of it being a good thing for us and our business that we lose sight of what would work, is working or will never work.

So stepping back can be an excellent way to see clearly.

Summary

We often copy what other people do because we’re busy and think it’ll work for us. But sometimes you have to step back and change. I’ve been sending daily emails as an experiment, and while it worked, the feedback made me realise it wasn’t a good look for a Tech Minimalist. So I’m pivoting, simplifying, and making it better for my clients and myself.

When we work for ourselves, we’re often so busy effectively. I hate using the word busy, but busy in the sense that we’re running our business. We’re busy in the sense that we’re trying to wear different hats and do lots of things for our business. We’re so busy that we tend to find things and get influence from reading articles, watching videos, and kind of do the things that other people do, thinking that it help us in our business and the way we work.

We’ve all fallen victim to this. I have to recently, specifically. But I got an email today from somebody, I know from a master’s group that I’m involved with, Jeff. He’s probably listening to this as well. And he messaged me in a real, reply about exactly this, about the fact that we tend to get inspiration from others because how we think they’re working and that thing will work for us.

Now, I’ve been sending daily emails out actually kind of as an experiment for the past two months. Today will be my last daily email because I have been getting feedback, both positive and negative. But the negative ones purely too many emails and as a Tech Minimalist who helps people simplify everything, yeah, that’s not a great look.

So I personally was looking at other people doing daily emails, seeing that it’s working for them and it has worked. I’ve got to be honest, it has worked. But I think it’s, again, because of me being a Tech Minimalist and getting this feedback, I don’t want to be lumped in as somebody who spams. Not that they’re, I’m hoping. that they’re not spamming emails because the good feedback is that they like the videos, depending myself on the back there.

So being busy doing our work and running our business, you sometimes have to step back and go, you know what, maybe this ain’t a good thing. Maybe we should change it. Maybe I should change the way I work. And that’s basically what I’m going to be doing.

Obviously, this is a tech channel, so the idea of stepping back and looking at what you’re doing equally applies to everything, your tech and the things that you use, the tools you use. So simplify everything that you’re doing to make it easier on yourself, but better for your customers and your clients and your business effectively.

So, yeah, that’s something that I have been thinking about for the past month. month, but I’m like, no, I want to keep doing it to test it out a bit further. And you know me, I like to pivot. I don’t change, but I like to pivot and try different things. Hence, you’ve seen me rebrand a couple of times.

Anyway, have a great day, and I’ll see you in the next video. Ciao. Bye.
