Summary

While I love the Apple software updates, the new hardware cycle makes me sad. Nobody needs a new iPhone every year. I’ve had mine for five years and it works great. Same with your business tech, you don’t need the latest software just because it’s shiny. Think about whether you actually need it before you get your wallet out.

Raw

Every year, Apple has a conference around this time. I think it’s in a few days. I think it’s on Monday or Tuesday next week. And I love the fact that they keep updating their operating systems and obviously their software with new features. I think it’s fantastic. And obviously, we need updates all the time, specifically security updates. But they do that during the year.

But what I am kind of… of a little annoyed about, sad about, what however you want to call it, is the fact that they bring out new hardware, new max, new iMacs, new iPads, new iPhones. Now do you really need a new iPhone every single year? I’ve had my iPhone for like five years or so and it works great. The same, I mean, with my Mac, I bought it in 2020. Um, so I don’t buy my new Apple stuff every year, I’ve never done it.

And I just don’t understand why you would need to. Obviously, there are tech geeks, way more geekier than I, that do buy the latest stuff. A lot of them, a lot of the Apple content creators, effectively, they will buy it, use it, and then get a refund, because you can do it, you know, in two weeks. So I don’t see the reason to exchange to get a new MacBook, get a new phone every year, et cetera.

If there are specific features you need, i.e., the camera gets better, but how much better can they get nowadays? I worry that people just buy stuff for no reason, like, because I want it, rather than because I need it. And it kind of creates this circular commerce and crappola where we’re effectively throwing stuff out all the time.

And I feel sad for the planet, basically. I feel sad for the people doing it. There’s no reason.

And the same when I talk about software and tech running your business. You don’t need the latest software. Is that shiny object syndrome thing, uh, rearing his ugly head. You, you just don’t need it.

So I am happy on the one hand that they’re coming out with the software updates. We all need software updates. Obviously, new features, so on. But I’m just sad about the hardware side of things.

So I’ll be watching it. Uh, I may do a live stream. I don’t know. Um, watching the, um, the, um, the conference. But, um, yeah, before you watch it or, before you get your wallet out, just think whether you actually need it. Because many of you, like I, don’t need it.

Anyway, I see you tomorrow. Have a great day. I’m going to go outside and walk in the forest with Woof!. Ciao. Bye.
