Summary

You’ve got to make do with what you have, like I’m doing right now by hunching into the light to avoid mosquitoes. Same with tech, pick the software that’s least annoying and work around the little limitations. If there’s too much friction, don’t use it, but stop trying to make complicated tools work when simple ones do.

Raw

Wow, it is dark. Here’s the sun. The reason I’m sitting like this was because the sun’s out there. There are way too many mosquitoes outside, so I don’t want to do the video outside right now.

Firstly, I want to thank everybody who gave me feedback about the video I made a couple of days ago, a show about nothing. I really appreciate it. Secondly, you’ve got the whole point of that video was you’ve got to kind of make do with what you have. Like I am now, yeah, I’m hunching forward because the sunlight is out there. If I go back here, you don’t see me. So we’ve got to make do with what we have.

And I think it’s also the same with tech. Yet another segue. There are so many pieces of software. There’s so many apps and services out there that we can all use. You’ve got to choose the one that’s least annoying to you. Now, I could tell you, don’t use this software, don’t use that software, I only use this one, I, like, I will tell you what I use, and the reasons why I use then, it’s up to you to, to make that decision.

But if you’re using, or if you’ve got a piece of software, a service app, whatever, that you have to keep programming, you have to keep cellar taping to get together. That’s really not the best way of running your business, to be honest. For instance, there are apps out there like FileMaker, which are absolutely amazing and they’ll do pretty much everything that you do, especially now. And I used to make FileMaker stuff back in the day. I even made it for myself. But I got to a stage where like, you know, I can’t be bothered with this anymore. I don’t want to program. I want to work. I want to do the things that I want to do and I want to have the time to do.

So you have to choose the best for yourself, but also choose the apps and services that will make your life easier. And if it doesn’t, you have to work around it. Like I’m working around and not being outside with the mosquitoes. I’m working around having no light and coming into the light because the light is up there. So you have to work around your environment and I’m not saying make do, but you have to work around the things that you have.

So this, the video I made yesterday about Apple Notes and there’s people coming out of the woodwork saying, well, you know, notion is better for notes. And why? Why is notion better for notes? The fact that you have to press five buttons to get into the place where you have to actually create a note, how’s that better? Makes no sense.

So choose the tools and the apps that makes sense to you and work around the limitations. The little annoyances. If there’s too much friction, don’t use it, but the little annoyances is fine. I’m annoyed that I’m hunched back, hunched over, and now my back is kind of aching. So with that, I leave you with that thought, and I’ll see you next time. And I’m going to stretch.
